Default 2wd 1/5 scale monster project

im making a 1/5 scale monster right now. im still recieving all the parts but i do have a homelite 25cc engine, a 12x36x.1875 of 6061 t6 aluminum, t maxx tires(need to get bigger??). im cutting the chassis, a arms shcok towers, and servo plates out of the aluminum plate. its all going to be on a cad/plasma cutter and cut out. its also going to have a full roll cage made out of 3/16 steel that will be tig welded.
stuff i have:
aluminum for chassis-arms-towers
engine
all electronics
gas tank
wheels/tires

stuff i still need:
differential- dtx firehammer?
spur gear and clutch-dtx firehammer?
axles-i could lathe these out my self
shocks-will 1/8 scale work?
tell me anything that i forgot

this is just to get you started on what i am doing. right now its in the need parts stage

T maxx tires are going to be really small for this project and you might consider Losi LST shocks for your beast. Can't wait to see a few pics

i was thinking about the lst shocks..they are so expensive though!! the t maxx tires will work till i can get some bigger ones

i just bought a chunk of aluminum that measures 12x14x.5 for the a arms.

IMO T-maxx tires are a good place to start. Then you can go up to the bigger sizes which fit the T-maxx hubs. IE: Jumbo Kongs, or atleast some 40 series wheels.

I know it's a little late now, but .5 inch for a arms for your scale might be a bit overkill. I was going to use .5, but ended up with 3/8 and I still think it's a bit much, and my truck is quite a bit larger and heavier.

i thought about using 3/8 but with the 1/2, i can mill out alo of the extra stuff and only have the arms be 1/4-3/8 in places.

If starting with 1/2 inch stock you should have enough material to mill some really slick designs into your arms.

yep. i made life-size templates of the chassis and a arms out of some constrution paper. i made the a arms like maxx lower a arms but 2 inches bigger. the chassis is kinda shaped like a 1/8 scale buggy to shave doen the weight.

i kind of work in metal. i just like doing it. the plasma machine i will be using is actually a plasmacam. you put the dimensions and shape you want in a cadcam program and send it to the cutting table. its all computer controlled

i just cut the chassis out and it looks great. heavy but its gonna be super strong. i used a jigsaw because i thought the heat from the plasma cutter might distort to metal. i went through 2 blades and took about an hour to fully cut. i have a picture of the chassis

as for the suspension, the extra pieces from the chassis plate will be used to make the front 2 a arms because they are not going to be as wide as the back 2. the bulkheads might come from these extra pieces. i have 4 buggy and 8 savage shocks that i can use for shocks. i thnik it will be an 8 shock set up.

Good start. I would have used 1/4" plate to lighten the load. The 1/2' for the suspension is fine. So you are going to make a buggy? You could have used a CNC or manual machine to cut the chassis. Faster and cleaner.

the chassis is 1/4" plate. i didnt have access to a cnc so i couldnt do that. ill find someone that has a bandsaw and use it. that would be much eaiser then a jigsaw. the cuts i made with my jigsaw were actually pretty clean.
i thought about it alil bit and im using the extra pieces from my chassis to cut out the front a arms. they wont have all the stress like the back ones will. the back ones will be 1/2"

if you could let me know how this goes it would be great coz im building a buggie myself with a weed wacker motor. i have so far decided that it will only have front suspention and im going to use a chain drive straight from the drive shaft to the rear axel. im using some 5.7 inch 'BOW TIE' tyres on the bvack and some cheap buggie tyres on the front. so let us know how your goes and maybe you can teach me some of the things you wouldnt recommend.
