Default Engine balance question...

I ran my Marder today, and the starter broke. More specifically it was the plastic piece that extends out and engages the fan wheel that broke.

In the process, one of the two aluminium studs on the fanwheel that the starter engages broke off about 2/3 down...BUMMER!!!

So...

Since the starter was busted I used an electric screwdriver to start the engine off of the 12mm fanwheel bolt. Worked great, and ran the car for a short while

BUT I am concerned as to the imbalance problems that might arise from the broken stud. I can remove one of the fanblades on the opposing side if necessary, I´m just wondering if anyone has had this problem before.

You can balance the flywheel using a prop (boat) balancer. The trick is finding something to use for an "axle". The hole through the flywheel is probably a taper. Some balancers come with cones that may work. MIKE

Thanks.

I am also trying to find the correct part to buy, I have been scavenging the net for exploded views of the starter assebly but is still guessing at the exact part numbers that I need.

I need the part that swings out (I´m guessing it´s the ratchet) as well as the big spring underneath that pokes out from under the swinging part... Not the small wire spring that pushes the swinging part in from the outside, I have that. And NOT the spring for the rope.

Geez, this is confusing. All because I can´t find good exploded drawings. I´ve looked over online shops but without correct parts numbers it´s difficult because no shops have pictures of the small bits and pieces. I´d rather not buy a complete new starter assembly... I am unfamiliar with english names and terminology when it comes to engine parts, so I am not sure as to the names of the parts I need.

Also, I have a G2D engine in my car, don´t know if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help.

Hey WAIT! I was a bit too eager there...

I've looked over the exploded pic of the G2D... I need the white plastic part that is labeled 7323/3, but that part number refers to the starter handle! But this is what Hobbytheks (rc-car-online) webshop says:

07323/03, Starter ratchet 1 pcs.

There is no mention of the starter handle there.

This gets more confusing by the minute!

Can't guarantee that's the right part though. It would probably be easier just to buy a complete pull starter (just remove the four mounting screws and fix) Then also buy the broken piece repair it and keep in your spare box. I think I have two complete pullstarters spare from G2D! (might not fit my GS260 though)

Yeah, might just as well...

The starter´s going to break again sometime in the future, good to have a spare then.

Do you by any chance want to part with one of your G2D starters?

hmm i know that there is a alu part to buy instead of that plastic part... dont know the number though:P

and there are some lightweight flywheels to buy

and hmm do that netthing on the starter.. so small rocks and gras wont get in to ruin your engine...

gras got stuck and made me engine run hot.. sucks..

tsts dont forget to just pull "hard" when you notice that that part that goes out has connected to the flywheel

lol so not alot of driving in väsby today stefan?:P

Just call Sean at Oneill Brothers, he ships international and carries G2D parts. Won't break the bank ether!
Personally I like your power starter idea!

Daves Discount Motors also ships internationally, an dI have always received prompt service and excellent prices from them.
http://www.davesmotors.com

They are also willing to ship using USPS, which means that shipping isn't going to be extremely expensive.
Ask them to declare the part as a warrenty replacement part, then you might avoid taxes.

DDM has parts for most types of Zenoah and CY/SiKK engines.

Hey StefanL, my starter broke the second time I ran my MT. I called my LHS and they referred me to Molzer Mowery( I guess thats where he got the trucks from). I gave them a call and they told me to send it back and they fixed mine free of charge. Now as far as the fanwheel studs are concerned, huuum, maybe if u let them know that it broke because of the starter, they might be able to do something. They are [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif] in my book ! ! ! !

Just IMO ! ! !

Unfortunately, those starters fit the RC style motors only. They will not fit the G2D.

Yep, Ryan, I noticed that as well.

I have found that the ratchet is the part I need, 7323/3. I´ll order it together with some other stuff.
