MCD RaceRunner - Need a bit of help
Hello,
I just got my MCD RaceRunner buggy and am all ready to go. I had it upgraded to the 30.5 cc Stroker Motor, but can't get it to start.
I think I know the issue: which way do I need to push the lever to turn the choke on? Up or Down?
I get it to sputter, but I think I am just messing up the choke. My pulse is up to 150, so any help is appreciated.
My son is just itching to go!
Thanks in advance.
-John

RE: MCD RaceRunner - Need a bit of help
Thanks...
I almost had it, but I ended up snapping the pull cord...oh well....
I think I have too much oil in the premix. Supposed to be at 25:1 for break-in using a non-synthetic oil, but I think put too much oil in. Prob 6 oz instead of 4. So, I am more like 15:1...
Shame. I used to be a firefighter and had to start a chainsaw on 2 pulls!!! I can't believe the MCD beat me!

My procedure (car is on the stand, radio off):
1 Priming bulb
2. Lever is down - 1-3 pulls to first fires
3. Open throttle for ~1-2 mm - 1-3 pulls to start

Thanks for the tips. I will give that a try if I can fix the pull cord.
Do you know if the pull cord is something I can find suitable material for a repair at home depot, or do I need to special order it?
Also, do you think my pre-mix is too rich to run? I guess I am at about 15:1 or so....
Should I drain the tank and start over?

I'm in Russia - i think you can find some suitable cord - it' much easier in the USA.
I always use 1:25. I think it's better to make some new premix for first attempts to start in order to be sure that it's everything ok with fuel. Then check fuel lines - the intake is on the bottom of the carb - that line should end near bottom of the fuel tank.

RE: MCD RaceRunner - Need a bit of help
Thanks for the tips. I replaced the started cord and gas making sure my mix was right.
I fired up on the 3rd pull, but will only rev up if I keep pressing the buld. There are air bubbles in the buld (not sure if there should be).
When it starts and I press the bulb, it revs up and I can only get it to keep running when the throttle is near idle. When I increase the throttle, it stalls making a deep sucking sound like it's just not getting gas. If I add throttle and push the prime bulb, it screams!
So, any ideas? Sounds like I am not getting a good supply of fuel...
All suggestion appreciated.

There is a long metal tube and a short tube that goes in your fuel tank , make sure the long one is connected to the in-side of your carb.

Yep - the fuel lines are ok. Found out what the problem is...
The low speed jet was out about 6 turns. After finally giving up and reading a faded one page note about the engine that came with the buggy, I found what the right jet settings should be. I closed it and then set it to 1.25 turns and it started in the 1st pull.
It's running great. this things a blast....
thanks for the help!
