Default walbro wt 813 carby on 5b ss

Gday guys, just put a wt 813 carby on my ss and found that i had to screw the idle screw right in and lean the low speed adjustment a quarter of a turn to get it to idle. anyone else had any issues with these units

i tried one and didnt much care for it so i put my 668 back on i may try it again this summer mine would not idle . that carb is billed as a race carb ,no choke , they are hard to get to idle.

You didn't get the one with the choke conversion kit. The 813 without the choke kit is for BOATS. You shouldn't go past factory settings. I bet their is a Air leak.

I got an 813 on my fg with a reed ported 28.5....no problem at all...idles great and was a cinch to set up...even starts below zero after 6 or7 pulls. getting one for my race ported 28.5 rampage next. Essentially the only difference between an 813 and 668 is accelerator pump and no choke, should idle fine.
There's all sorts of talk about these carbs being hard to set up and for boats etc...for tuned engines they totally eliminate the low end bog off idle, they flow more wot cos there is no choke to upset the airflow, they are popular with boaters because boats are nearly always tuned and to get out the water quick they want to eliminate that low end bog, the carb is not strictly just for boats however. I think a lot of the negative hearsay is posted by folks who have never run one...I'm sure you'll get a few posts here both for and against the 813 but my own experience with one I think it's a great carb for my application.

i second that- i also have to run the idle screw all the way in but my plug is perfect, and i have very little hesitation off the line.

I had to do the same. But the carb runs great. It starts easy. So far never more than 3 pulls and that was when it was 50°F outside too. Mine came on a Zenoah G270RC engine.

theres a definate improvement in performance and it starts fine ,the only real concern i have is that the low idle screw had be adjusted so far, i ll keep checking the plug and if that still looks ok then i guess it should be sweet. i put an elcon clutch in it as well, got sick of buying new clutch shoes all the time, an excellent investment, it hooks up a lot better and being able to adjust it to my liking is a bonus, they re supposed to last a lot longer as well but i ve only put one tank thru it since it was installed so the jury is still out on that one

i just got mine back on and to my suprise it came to life after the second pull, and it seemed to idle fine. that was on the bench. i will give it a try outside in the morning hopefully it will be o.k. thanks for the info you guys posted. air leak? what air leak, i had my setting off. being concerned about not wanting to go past "factory settings" is why i took it off in the first place. i will let you know late how it runs thanks for the info guys!!

the only problem with these carbs is peoples obsession to lean them out lol
i run my 5b and mcd rally with 4 bolt zens and both run 813's ive NEVER had trouble with them and the most ive tuned is 16th of a turn lean on the LSN
Thats it!!!! and they run perfect.... 8th of a turn rich OR lean, and it wont start!!!

glad to hear your up a running speedy.d

fired mine up again this arvo, it revved its guts out so i screwed the idle out, reset the low needle to factory 1 1/4 turns and all is sweet. three pumps on the bulb three blips on the throttle and it started second pull. i havent taken it for a good run yet but the little blat i gave it around the paddock tells me its gunna be a good thing

I am running 813's on a Baja 1000, Redcat Rampage, and my FG. I have never had a problem or issue.

it is 30 degrees here in indy, i took the truck out on my deck pushed the bulb 3 times gave it 3 blips 4th pull it came to life , it idled . i hit the kill switch and then gave it another pull and thats all it took. i noticed a big difference in my throttle response. power seemed smoother thru out the the entire range also . thanks guys it runs great !

largescalerc, ddm , and most other places that sell performance engines should have them. they dont cost an arm and a leg either. i had taken mine off because i couldnt get it to run, but after listening to the info these guys had i was able to get it up and going easily! i put another tank thru it and i am hooked the throttle response is much better and it has a smoother powerband. its easier to start than what i had thought it would be too.

I just ordered one for the rampage from oneills.
Glad you got sorted speedy, as you found they're not any harder than a 668 to get tuned right and the off idle pick up is awesome, worth every penny. Just go past the factory settings which are for 603, 668. The 813 on my fg from oneills was already set real close, just a tweak or two and bingo

i just posted a link to a video i posted today on the fs 4wd thread check it out, you can hear how much better it comes off the bottom end. traction was a big problem we had just gotten a light ice storm so things were a bit slick.
