engine not firing up
Well s the title says, my engine is not firing up. I went to fire up my RS5 today for the first time and she fired right up.. Interesting the engine does not have a choke. I only filled the tank about half way up. the car ran fine for about 8-10 minutes with a lot of smoke and it cut off. My guess was that the cars needle settings were off seeing that i live in chicago and the car came from australia. I returned the car to the stock needle settings that i found on here that foxy stickied at the top. I pulled the plug and it looked good. The car took about 5 pulls to start again. But before it started, on one of my pulls the car backfired. One or two pulls after that the car fired right up.. it ran for about 1 minutes and then died again with the slightest bit of gas given to it. Now i filled the tank up this time.. the car wouldnt turn over and backfired again. I couldnt get it to start up anymore.. any ideas?

A back fire is usually a sign that the engine is flooded or that there also could be a timing issue. You might have a problem with the coil gap or the fly wheel key might be missing or broken. The magnet on the fly wheel controls when the plug fires. How is the compression on the engine.

thanks guys i will try those out.. any special plug i need to get? also there is no choke lever on this engine..lol....i have looked around and cant seem to find one. So would the too much oil be a reason that the engine does not want to fire... not enough fuel to combust?

RE: engine not firing up
I personally use the stock NGKs that come on the Zenoahs. CMR7H are the plugs I use, so far so good. I only fouled one from running slobbering rich during breaking in one of my Zen 26cc engines.
NGK also makes iridium core equivalents, but I have yet to personally buy one to try them for myself. I find the CMR7H's are great for the price: $4 USD per plug, and that is a bargain. After breaking a couple from rolling over, I cannot complain.

If the engine dies when you give it the throttle you might want to tear the carb down and clean it out. I have taken mine apart and used carb cleaner to flush out the internal screen filter in the carb and remove the needle valves. Give it a good wash and put it back together. Also check the plastic insulator between the carb and block for cracks.
