Mini Atv shocks might be a good start.

You can always make your own shocks cheap with the right tools. Weight is always a big problem when building you own homebuild.

You can purchase automotive lift supports from http://www.autopartsbylou.com/ Then place it in a vice and use a punch to discharge the gas from the lower chamber. Then spot weld the hole. Then either weld/clamp on a lower and upper spring retainer. Then purchase a spring from the home depot for screen doors and cut it to length. I am building a 1/4 scale pro street Beretta and that's what I'm using.

Once you get on the site select the, Select Extended Length tab. They have them as small as 3.6''
