RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
See if you can get an 'R' plug for it mate. They are made to cut down on radio interferance somehow.
Be a bit more 'shed' style than a new radio

Hey Troppo.
Yeh it has an "R" plug in it as it is.
I guess you're average Radioshack $20 toy RC cars electronics don't have the interference protection of real RC gear.

Here's some pics with the body on.
Well, off to the shelf with it for now, but it will be back again.
Promise.

Looks alot better with the body on! Shame there is a huge hole on the side for the carb. Couldnt you have just drilled a smaller hole?

Yeah when the air filter is on the carb it sticks out a bit though.
You should see the other side where the exhaust sits.....
Might cover it up with some speaker mesh or something.

That equipment you just ordered is very nice indeed [8D]
It will be good to know you will never have to worry about having the thing run away from you [:@]

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
Ok here are some pix of the new setup.
Still a few things to figure out before it's done.
Most of the bits are pressed together.
Still using the same axle setup and the nuts on the end will sit nicely in the sockets.
I decided against using the diff as it probably wouldn't last too long under stress.
Also this grinder was just begging to be pulled apart and used.
(Looking at that second last picture makes me wonder if it would be possible to make a diff using 2x the gears from a grinder...[sm=tongue_smile.gif]...)

Looks like its coming along nicely. Can't wait to see this thing go.
BTW, where do you get your sockets?? I may have to borrow your idea of using the sockets, if I can find some el'cheapo ones I don't think dad would be too pleased if half his set of sidchrome sockets went 'missing'

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
Cheers guys.
Without you this car wouldn't exist in the first place.
You've been a huge inspiration and help.
Sam, I have a couple of old socket sets laying around which I keep using for this.
Couldn't tell you where I got them from, but I guess you could have a look at Supercheap Auto or maybe even places like The Warehouse or Silly Solly's or whatever they're called these days.
Should be able to get a small set for $10-15.
Some places might even sell them individually for a couple of cents each.
But yeah, leave dad's Sidchrome set alone....
[EDIT]
My radio and servo order is "Shipped & On The Way To Customer"

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
Here are some pictures of the rear axle setup starting to come together.
Sockets welded on to the gear and new axle cut to length.
Going for solid axle rather than split.
It spins 99.8% true. [8D]

Don't forget about the pinion back lash DVP... You may even need to shim the axle's at the pillar block.. Both sides.. All you need to do is purchase various thickness shims to accomplish the task..

SDP/SI has some as well but couldnt' link the page here... Here is a screen shot of the page... Check it out!!
Good luck

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
I've got a new setup for the rear axle on the go.
Yeah another one.. this would be like the um.....6th or something...??....I've lost count....
This one should be good though.
Have figured out a way to keep the grinder head intact and have the axle poking out through the casing.
It will however - given the rotation direction of the engine, still spin the wrong way [:@]
At least it'll be snug inside the casing and I can stick some grease in there too.
