Nah haven't got anything done as yet today.
Might get a bit done on the steering but doubt I'll have time to do much over the next coming days.[:o]

I scored a pocketbike motor today so this might change things a bit........:D

It's actually almost a complete pocketbike.
Only things missing are seat, fuel tank and exhaust.
Got the motor going after a cleanup and with a chainsaw muffler on it.
It's a bit rough but with a bit of tuning I reckon it could be good.
Started easy enough and revs pretty well.

Got the lot for $20 so can't complain.
Will post some pics later.

Here's some pics of the motor.
I have no idea what it is as there are no labels or writing on it anywhere.
At a closer inspection I found that one of the clutch shoes are broken where the spring is attached, so one of the three shoes doesn't have a spring.

I'll most likely stick to the Husqvarana motor at this stage but might use this one down the track if I can get it to run ok.

The clutch shoes for those are pretty generic, you can pic up a set on fleabay for bugger all.
I can see big things coming:D

Yeah maybe THIS will be the motor to power the super large project I'm dreaming of.
Just imagine it - Wide wheelbarrow wheels all around, full suspension, wheelbase of about 1200mm, rollcage.....


But gotta get these other two projects sorted out first.
Get this up and running and then get stuck in to doing suspension on the other one.

No doubt there will be more things popping up along the way.
Never a dull moment in my shed. (Or head for that matter....)

Got a fair bit done today.
Set the servos up and finished the steering.

Just a couple more welds, sort the rear axle out and there should be a testrun this weekend.
Provided this bloody rain stops.[:o]

Sweet! $20 is a bargain for one of those.

Those pocketbike engines are good, but I think you will find that the husky engine is lightyears ahead in terms of performance and build quality. Just my 2c.

Yeah couldn't resist at $20.
I saw one a couple of weeks ago for $30 but it had no carbie or pullstart. so didn't get it.
It did however have an exhaust.....


Probably should have got that one too and I would have 2 to pull parts from but anyway.....

Well the testrun was........interesting.
There is certainly no problem with the power.
Controlling this machine however....

Short vid of the first (and last until I rebuild it) run.

It has got some serious power this machine.
Didn't take it over 1/2 throttle and it was running really rough too.
Didn't get a chance to tune it properly before I stacked it.
At least I know it goes and I shall start the rebuild as soon as I get a chance.

uh ok I was wondering why you wanted to rebuild it already (I didnt knowwhatyou meant by ``stacked it`` lol)About 2 seconds before it happened I was saying to myself : I hope this gray car is yours in case something goes wrong:)

that thing looks good, it's so big, the lenght looks proportional to the width. Looks like it have a good small turning radius too

Today I learned I am better designing a bumper in the early stages of my build :D Are the tires very soft rubber ? They are probably designed more for off road, maybe they dont hold their shape as well with more weight on them and high speed!

Yes the wheels are for offroad which is where this will mainly be run once finished.
Been taking the motor apart today and started giving it a clean and trying to figure out where/how to make the engine mounts for it as the whole casing is plastic and half of it consists of the fueltank, but I think I have an idea of how to do it.

I'll be having a go at suspension on the rebuild as well.
Probably not fully independent at this stage though.

Funny though isn't it - one car in the whole street and I managed to smash in to it.:D
Lucky it hit where it did right in to the wheel.


It is my girlfriend's sister's car by the way.

you can see whre your homemade diff will come in handy though :) it would take away alot of the "looseness"...

With a slightly smaller diameter sprocket, do you think you'd be able to put your home made diff on this car ?

Nice pictures! In picture 1, I like that it have a raked look :) Where did you source the small metal balljoint on the servo ? Looks like a ball joint from a hood or trunk damper.

Looking at the pics I realized your car was maybe the size of an electric car for kids,I know a bodyis not really important at this stagebut I searched google to see what is the size and this one is 129cm long, 57cm wide. I dont remember if you said what was the exact size og yours. I guess those cars are all about the same, so if you find one for cheap it might make for a nice body hahah :) THere is also jeep, mustang and other types of bodies

Yeah the turning circle can be improved a little but all in all it's not too bad.

I've been keeping an eye out for a suitable body but nothing yet.
Something will come along though.
You're probably right about the kid's elecrtic car bodies.
If they're not quite the right size it's easy enough to cut&shut so to speak.


The balljoints...well I'm not sure where the metal one was from but the plastic piece at the servo end is from an outboard motor.
I've found that a lot of them have those ones for the carbie linkage.
I went to a couple of boat shops and they wanted anywhere between $8 and $20 for just that plastic bit - no ball included.
I found a couple of motors down at my favourite scrapyard though and got 4 of them for a dollar. :D


Probably won't get much done with the rebuild this week as work has reared its ugly head, but it's all good.
The motor is still in pieces waiting for a big clean and reassembly anyway and then I've gotta make some decent mounts for it.
I have a good feelign about this project though.
That motor has some serious grunt.
I will do my best to make a video with engine noise next time......

A couple of pics of the bent frame and the new engine mount.
Am making a "cradle" for the motor as the casing is all plastic and there seems to be no right angles to work with.
I'll attach it with more bolts on the side shown in the photo and do a similar setup on the other side and join the two sides with steel tubing under the motor.
Then this whole setup will be bolted to the chassis, making it easy to remove.

That's the idea anyway.

I really like the proportions of this car....similar to what I will be aiming for with my build.
