Yeah that's right.

The [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdC4r5l_-j4&feature=channel]MONSTER[/link] is sort of at a standstill at the moment until I start thinking about putting suspension and stuff on it, but I'll still keep driving it in the meantime and make some more videos when the rain holds off.
Been pouring down here the last couple of days.

Soooooo.......things have gone full circle.
It was about a year ago on a rainy morning (much like the one today) when I stood in the shed and looked at a weedwacker, a wheelbarrow wheel and some steel tubing on the floor and had the idea to build an RC car.
The rest is history, as they say, and you've all been witnessing it right here on RCU.

So today - rainy morning - in the shed - looking at a motor sitting on the shelf.
Some of you may have seen this [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-x4NErOSp4]VIDEO[/link] of a motor I picked up last year.
I was originally gonna use it for a scooter build, but got too tangled up in the RC car building so nothing really came of that.
I still might do the scooter one day, but that's a different story.

So (for the third time...god I ramble on sometimes:eek:) I thought I'd do something with that motor, and also try out my new self-darkening welding helmet.
I must admit I'm a bit sick of working with aluminium at the moment and thought that I'd have a go at welding up a frame.
Heavy but strong.

I'm not being too precise with this thing and just pretty much slapping it together at this stage.:)

All in all it will probably end up being about the same size as the other car with same size wheels etc, but bigger motor.
Might even go one of those cheap and nasty radio/reciever packages and some el cheapo Jaycar servo's just for a laugh to see how it works and how cheap you can really build a large scale car.

We'll see what happens eh.
Wouldn't surprise me if this thread will go on for 12 pages with a number of crazy ideas popping up along the way. ;)

What sort of suspension will you be using on the rear?

No suspension.
Bearings pressed in to a piece of tubing welded straight on to the frame.
Single chain from the motor to the axle.
No grinder, no jackshaft minimal amount of moving parts.

This will be a very "agricultural" car.
Decide where something has to go and weld it on.
I just wanna do something that's not so involved (for lack of a better word) as the other build, with everything bolted on and having to worry about things vibrating loose and being strong enough etc etc.
Something to have fun and "relax" with....:)

Not that I don't enjoy doing things "the other way" but it can get a bit much at times and it takes a long time (as you know) to measure, cut, file, drill, line up, bolt, take back off, put something else on etc etc etc.

im liking this, what size sprockets do you have on there? What are they off of?

The one on the motor is a 13 tooth sprocket off an exercise bike.
It's the small sprocket that sits in the wheel.
Took a lot of cutting and grinding to get out.:eek:

On the rear axle it's a 65 tooth pocketbike sprocket.

So gear ratio will be 5:1.

I think the motor should have enough torque to pull it and it should be pretty fast too....

it should go pretty good with a 5:1 ratio
with a around a 6 inch tire it should go about 35mph
its looking good, keep it up

My wheels are 200mm dia.

I jsut solved the biggest problem.
How to mount the rear sprocket.
It's always hard to find a way to mount a sprocket with a 50mm hole on to an 8mm axle.

But I solved it, and while it's very crude I'm pretty sure it'll work.
Will post some pics tomorrow.

Now I'm off to the shower to wash off the grinding/welding dust and get ready to party like it's 2009.

Who the hell would have thought of using a drill chuck as a self tightening mount?
Brainwaves are few and far between here in Aus on New Years day, brain aches are a lot more common lol

Yeah I think that chuck should work ok.
After lots of looking around in the shed for something that would be strong enough, and with the right size bore I found that chuck and thought it could be the go.
Maybe weld some little tabs on the axle for the teeth to grip on to?
Then just tighten the chuck up and maybe put a little bit of weld on it to keep it in place.

We'll see.
At the moment I'm going over all the welds on the frame.
These self-darkening welding helmets are awesome.:D
Dunno why I waited so long to get one.

Too bloody right they are, i have used one every-day at work for years now and i wouldnt want to do without it now

Yeah it's easy to complicate things too much sometimes when building so I'm trying to keep it simple this time.
I'm planning to rebuild this using 20x20mm square tubing if this setup works.

I've also got 3 different sprockets to choose from that I can put on the clutch.
9,10 and 13 tooth so I'll be able to play with gear ratios.
