First home built glider - 8 ft span
Hi guys,
I've been flying fixed wing and I also paraglide. So it occured to me that it might be fun to put my knowledge of each together and try my hand at flying slope soarers. I had some insulation foam lying around and decided to see if I could build something using purely bits and pieces that I had lying around and so far after a day's work this is what I've come up with:
It's still quite rough around the edges at the moment and I need to finish shaping up the airfoil and fuselage to neaten it up a little. Also I haven't prepared the control surfaces yet or sorted out a radio bay for the reciever and battery. Both of these will need to hang quite far forward though in order for the CoG to be correct. It glides beautifully with a little bit of weight at the front. (I got impatient and tested it in the field next to where I live!) Very smooth and straight.
It's probably not going to be the most efficient soarer in the world but I'm looking forward to finishing it off and giving it a go!
Let me know what you think so far. Like I said it's really just a rough job as I had some time to kill and I thought it would be fun!

RE: First home built glider - 8 ft span
Thanks! I'm thinking about redoing the nose of the fuselage to allow for a bit more space for radio gear and move the COG forward a little. But today I'm going to mount a battery right at the front under the nose and see how well it will glide. If the COG is still too far back then I'll need to extend the nose somehow I think.
