Default Kansas City Scale, Woodie, TD and Aerotow Events

I would like to hear from modelers and flyers regarding interest in a woodie, scale, and TD event and aerotow to be held near our facilities here in Kansas City.

From local activity it is hard to get a handle on how much interest there may be for one or all of the types of events mentioned. We would love to be involved in such an event and even host and provide and coordinate sponsorship and prizes.

In fact, I am already looking for suitable flying sites with facilities to store assembled gliders through a two or three day event schedule.

Please let me know if you are interested and where you would be travelling from, and which type of event most interests you. Please do so by private mail so I can save your replies and email addresses to complete my survey offline.

It seems that we are fairly centrally located to hold such an event and attract flyers and modellers from throughout the central US - MN to TX, WY to TN???????

Default RE: Kansas City Scale, Woodie, TD and Aerotow Events

Hi Tom,

I'm Sean Brown and live in Pensacola, FL. Just wanted to send a quick note. I read your post and realize it's a little dated but.....

I also have been thinking of sparking interest around my area for a wood-crafters type event and a TD meet. For what it's worth my boss (and flying buddy) and I go to a lot of aerotow events such as Triple Tree, JR in Champaigne, IL, Fayetteville and so on. I also go to Stillwater, OK fairly often (in-laws live there) so if you did put on a meet in your area such as you suggest, I am certain my gang would attend unless there was some scheduling problems. Traveling there would not be a problem and I have enough guys around here interested that I think we could make a decent showing. So.... count mine as a yes vote!

On the other hand, do you think some of the flyers in your area would be interested in a weekend-long fun fly? Woodies, TD, fly anything you want weekend, no points to earn no spot-landing task, just a real get-together. I have five great flying fields to choose from including a large but quiet grass field airport that the boss owns that we shut down occasionally for R/C. Cookouts, beaches and such would be in the offering.

I thought about posting a poll here on RCU for this but would appreciate a little input first. Seems like a lot of guys around here have either gone on to other hobbies or only do the large scale aerotow gig. I want to promote woodies to open class TD but NOT spot landing contests. Just fun flying, good times and meeting fellow flyers from all around.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Sean
