Kevin:
If you want to fly in TD contests, you will have to be a member of AMA (if you are not already). If you are a member, contests of every type are listed in the back of the magazine for sanctioned contests if the the clubs provide enough advance notice to make the publishing date. It's a good place to start.
I'm sure one or more of the clubs in your vicinity will respond to your post.
Here is a link with some very helpful information on Thermal Duration Contests:

Good luck!

The League of Silent Flight (LSF) website has lots of interesting stuff; try to find someone to practice fly with and take turns timing each other and hitting your spot landings. The LSF achievement program will get you started also. It's a great way to find new challenges in RC. Jim LSF796

Competitors usually join together in clubs. Check with the LHS's to see if they have any contact information for any local clubs. The clubs often put cards or posters on the notice boards or whereever in the stores. Or perhaps some kind sould here can direct you to a club.
Oh, and start practicing your spot landings....

i am a member on AMA and LSF but i live in an area that does not have very many people flying sailplanes. In Denver (i live in steamboat) there are a lot of clubs and one puts together a very large F3J contest. I have really no problem finding contest but what i am having a problem with finding is a large group that puts contest all around the US. (who puts together NATS)
