Default man made slopes

anyone know if someones ever made a slope to fly rc aircraft on?

i've had this idea for a while.. to build an artificial slope, sort-of like the thrust deflectors at small airports where the airplanes take off, maybe they could be powered by a few huge fans!

There are many man made slopes out there! some of the SOAR guys got into flying bridge abutments, hills of almost any size, and even building walls with litely loaded hand launches.

I'd imagine the mosquito class handlaunches will do nicely on these.

SOme of the best rc sloping sites in the country are man-made: reserviors in Kansas or somewhere out in flatland.

Just about nothing around here 'cept for beach dunes

A friend of mine who used to live in Florida often tells me about slope flying at a place called "Mt Trashmore." Apparently it was a large heap of rubble collected from Hurricane Andrew that was then covered over.

Hey Slope heads :

One of the finest manmade slopes that I have flown are the jetties on Lake Mead , they are nearly a mile long and about 100 ft. high, and simetrical !!!! No Fan will be needed here.
These structures are located on the west side of hoover dam and are north and south of the Lake Mead Marina. Bring a little balast

Dam...wish I had thought of that

I have heard of some light indoor birds flying off of electric fan lift.

As far as building a slope yourself... yes it has been done. Using scafolding and plastic sheeting and large electric fans to provide the wind.

Of note on of the very first man made gliders was designed, built, and flown by Otto Lillienthal (spelling may be wrong) in Germany in the late 1800's. Since he did not have a hill around to test his gliders he had a man made hill built. Needless to say he had some money...
