Default Hi start rubber source

Can anyone help me with a good source for mandrel dipped hi start rubber? Holleyday designs had the stuff, but they appear to be out of business now. I found the extruded rubber at several locations, but I'd prefer the mandrel dipped if possible. Thanks for any directions you can point me to!

Default Hi start rubber source

Crosswind:
Is the mandrel tubing different from surgical tubing ?
I went to a medical supply outlet in KC to get the 1/4" & 3/8".

Could you explain the difference ?

Default Hi start rubber source

I'm not sure what the surgical tubing is. The mandrel tubing is dipped as opposed to the extrusion process. It's supposed to have a more linear energy curve and is generally considered superior to extruded tubing. I think the maximum unspliced length for it is 50 feet, whereas you can get the extruded rubber in 100 foot lengths unspliced. I'm certainly no expert and it could be the extruded would work just fine. I'll be hauling up a 120" sailplane with whatever I find...

Default Hi start rubber source

Gary, thanks for your help. I had gone to Hollyday and they had a notice they were closed "for the summer" and it appears they haven't re-opened. I sent an email but have no reply.

Default Hi start rubber source

Gary:
Thank you for the site. Unfortunately they are shutting the
doors till fall. Looks like the good rubber is sold out.

I've been out of high starting for several years and was
needing to start over with new or better rubber.

Thanks, Randy

Default Hi start rubber source

Crosswind & RReis,
Rich had told me he was going to be laying low for awhile but I had fogotten, sorry. His rubber is excellent. I have 100 feet of the "big daddy" stuff that is brand new if you can't find anything else. It has the connectors installed, too. I'm not hot to get rid of it but if you really need it let me know and we can talk.

I have also used lots of surgical tubing in my time and it works very well. I've launched lots of Alpina's (4m) with it.

Default Hi start rubber source

Gary, thank you very much for your kind offer. However, if I don't have any luck with the really good stuff I'll just get 100 feet of 3/8 or 5/16 extruded and try that. Thanks again for your help!

Default Hi start rubber source

Crosswind, the really good stuff is the mandrel and that is what Hollyday has/had. I doubt that you will find it otherwise. Of course the surgical tubing is easy to come by. Remember to use talcum powder on any rubber you get. Gary

Default Hi-start rubber

@crosswind : Hobby Lobby also sells hi-start rubber, as well as complete sets including line, parachute, etc.
Don't know if it's mandrel dipped, though.

Default Hi start rubber source

MTT, I ordered 100 feet from Hobby Lobby last night... about $90 with shipping... and they inform me it's already been shipped. Thanks! Rich from Holliday returned my email and said they are still in business but have none of the hi-start rubber I was looking for. Thanks for everyone's help!
