TWF Lovers
New to RCUniverse and noticed hardly any posts concerning pitcherons/wingerons. I know it's a small niche but with the name :D"Universe":D I figured I'd see some ongoing/current thread.
Either way I've got a new one in the works. 96-100 ws 20 to 1 AR[X(] 16 to 20 oz wingloading, 40 ballasted? Not designed for flitting around close and quick on the slopes but rather for big air cruising and carving. It'll have the usual drive system but I'm also designing it so that anyone with a "spare";)(yeah right!) set of Blingeron can easily retofit it. Building both a Vtail pitcheron and X tail wingeron w/ff stab. She's curvy and sexy. Got a 14"ws static model done and still fine tuning the fuse with Rhino then its on to designing the wing. Currently working with a shuemann planform. Design criteria is pretty simple... Sexy design that will NEVER be mistaken for another design, high AR and of course a TWF. |

Fairly new to sailplanes, so forgive the newb?, what is TWF? I gather it relies on changing incidence between wings to bank the craft instead of ailerons? Would like to see some pics if you guys can.

CBM Racing you are correct. A pitcheron pivots each wing panel in opposition to each other for roll control then in tandem for pitch control. A wingeron only uses the wings for roll and the stab for pitch.
All linkages are internal. |

HaHA! I think I got it now... Maybe... Ok the first is the VERY elusive Kestrel... only 12 were produced I believe and the last one that changed hands went for 1200.00 supposedly. The next is a VMax then Shrike and the Blingeron. The mechanism for such creature are relatively simple but there a gentlman out there that puts his sweet into machining these works of art specifically for TWFs. OOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAAAAH! Fabulous.

sounds very interesting. I have a 180" ws glider on the drawing board I was going the same way with. 19:1 AR, built up wings f/g fuse and ff V-tail. Where do you get the mecanism?

I'm designing my FluidX so that it can accomodate the Blingeron in the hopes that those who purchase my sailplanes will bug the said gentleman enough to start machinig them on a regular basis. They trully are works of art! 4 sealed bearings in each that the wing tubes pivot on. Absolutely no slop. I've let him know what I'm doing and he sounded pleased with the idea but I'm sure he won't commit to anything until he sees that people are actually interested in my design. I believe this may be the firast production model designed specifically to accomodate his Blingeron. The kits will of course be sold with there own mechanisms but not as fancy as the Bling. |

qldvking, 180" ws, built up wing with wingeron control? Wow don't know if I'd have the boys to try that one. What kind of sailplane is it i.e. slope, flatland, big floater or cruise missle? You got drawings you can show us? You got your fuse mold done yet? Come on man let us see!! thats why I started this thread to get the juices flowing for TWF's.
I saw a sloper years ago that was a wingeron with full flying v tail a pod and boom jobby, the vtails were actuated internally. never did get the shop owner to take it down from the ceiling to look at how it was done. It was about 120"ws. Never seen one since, I don't know if it was a one off design or just a short production deal. If any oneelse has pics and info on TWF's feel free to post them on this thread. I'm still fine tuning the FluidX in Rhinocad but when I get it done I'll post some pics. But for right now I've got a 16" static model of it that I carry with me that I can post some pics of if anybody is interested in seeing it. |

Heres a couple of pics of my much battered and abused VMax with her new monoblock bling sitting in her.
I actually buried her up to the leading edge in the mountainside once and I literally had to grab the "boom" end and push/pull it back and forth a few times to loosen her enough to pull her out. That day she was sporting her 48"ws with the throws at max, read 30' up and 30' down! I She rolls about 5 to 6 a sec this way and as usual I thought I was right side up whe I pulled away from the face.... you know what REALLY happened. Her original wings were 72"ws with actual spyderfoam cores. I'd like to get my hands on a big block of spyderfoam.....strong wings!!! |

the glider I am designing will be a thermal/floater, I have the cores getting cut now for a 120" sloper, out of spiderfoam, price isnt too bad for what you get

The stuff I was talking about was from Spyder it self which went out of business a while ago and all that was left went through the roof! The stuff that is sold now is made by dow but from what I'm reading seams to have the same properties and the price isn't that bad as you said. |

Hey Mtntop - I have one of those in my hangar. Haven't flown her yet, still need to install metal geared servos in her, and wait for the perfect weather day to slope her. For those who don't know, its a SIG Samurai, which is no longer kitted.

THE SAMMY!!! I've missed out on that baby 6 times in recent years! She looks nice. I'm jealous. Now I'm gonna have to finnish my VMax rebuild. Keep us posted on the maiden and send more pics.
Actually the red and white one in the pic is a Snipe C not a Samurai but alot of people mistaken them. |

You're right that is a VS Sailplanes Rotor. The gentleman who owns that ship fashioned the hatch to opperate as a speed brake. He is also the artisan who machines the Blingeron which is the monoblock mechanism shown earlier.
