Default RE: Hello!!

Welcome to the hobby, phouse. So, your situation is fairly common, getting something for Christmas or Birthday and getting hooked. That's a good thing.

Anyway many gifts like that are the small 2-channel indoor helis that can be vary hard to control. If you got that kind, don't bother to try to repair it. I find you need a minumun of 3 channels to have a decent amount of control of any heli. Here is a good one that is still considered to be a toy by many folks, but has 3 channels and easy to control inside. Uses infrared control (rather than radio) so can't do outside if the sun is up.

If you want to fly outside, you'll need something a little larger, and probably 4 channels. Here is a good example of a nice single rotor 4 channel that uses an actual radio transmitter that has much more range than infrared. Of all the single rotor fixed pitch helis, this one is fairly easy to fly.

Hope this helps.
