Default TX compatibility

I'm confused as to the relationship between transmitter, receiver, and heli. For instance, if I bought a Spektrum DX6i transmitter, does it only work with E-Flite heli's? Or is the relationship between the TX and RX with the heli being independent? One of the heli's I've looked at is an Exceed BlueRay 450PE3D.....does the Spektrum work with this?

Sorry for the complete newbie question, just trying to learn.

Since you appear to be speaking 2.4 ghz, then the transmitter and reciever must be compatable.

All the BNF stuff by Parkzone requires a DSM2 transmitter but they include a reciever.

If you buy just a helicopter you could install a DSM2 reciever (spektrum) and bind it to a DX6i and fly it.

If your BluRay comes with a reciever, chances are about 0 that it will work with a Spektrum system (there are some cheap hobby king DSM receiver clones so I say "about 0" instead of 0"

So if I bought a BluRay or something like an ESky Honey Bee, I would need to buy a Spektrum receiver to be able to use it with the DX6i?
