Default Recommendations?

How is the Corona 116 Heli ? I want to get into Helis. I heard that the coronas are durable-are they?
do you guys have any reccomendations on beginning heli flight?
I would go to my LHS but I am a member and the only Heli guy I have ever seen there wasnt very freindly- I tried asking him questions like learning and he just said I would have to do helis completely on my own also I havent seen him there in like a year so do you think I would be able to learn on my own?
wich is better for beginning- the 116 or 117?

Default RE: Recommendations?

You definitely can learn on your own if you must. I did. When I started flying heli's about 10 years ago there weren't any others who flew so I had to go it alone. It's obviously easier if there's someone there to answer questions and give you pointers but you can teach yourself.

I had to go to the LMH site to see what the difference between the 116 and 117 was since the Lite Machines heli I had was an older model. I'd go with the 117 since it uses the larger engine and uses a separate piezo gyro rather than the Arlton mechanical gyro that the 116 uses. Mine had the Arlton gyro and it did work pretty well but no where as good as even a cheap piezo gyro.

The other model you might consider is the LMH Corona electric. I just love mine. It's just as durable as the glow versions and flies great.

For a larger glow heli I would recommend the Century Hawk Sport. Inexpensive and flies very well.

Whichever route you choose, try to get a hold of as much info as possible, online, books, etc. Ray's Helicopter Manual is a good place to start.

Good luck and be sure to practice as much as you can. You'll get there!

Regards,

Mike
