Default What does "Vario" tell you in FMS

In FMS at the top of the screen under the "View" header is an option for Speed, Altitude, and Vario. Does anyone know what type of information "Vario" is telling me? The speed and altitude are very useful and I'm sure the "Vario would be too if I knew what it meant. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks.

Not positive but I believe it is the rate of loss or gain in altitude

Vario is used mostly with gliders - If the pilot has made no control input, the variometer provides an indication of lift (positive values) or sink (negative numbers)
