Default Servos

My servo on my rudder on my raptor 30 is sounding abit louder then all the others. It sounds like the gears or something. Its a DS811 Servo. Is it starting to waer out or do I just have to lube up the gears?

Thanks

Rossco

Unusual noise from a servo means its time to replace the servo.

Its practically never the gears unless there's crash damage. When the gears are bad... the servo will sit and spin its motor, not operating the control, because invariably there will be one or more teeth missing.

Are they all digitals?

If the tail servo is digital it will buzz more than the others. That is normal. If the tail servo has suddenly got louder, or the noise is definately coming from the gears, then I agree with FHHuber. If it was metal geared then I might try changing the gears, but the DS811 isn't.

If you are at all concerned about the servo, I would put a new one in. I have had a servo failure recently in flight and it's not funny!

Absolutely untrue, in all respect to the tons of digital servos out. Digitals always make noise because they are constantly tracking their position. Standard servos correct around every 20ns i believe where digi is constant. My 1004SE Graphite can be a freaking chatter box at times, because every servo is digital.
A grinding noise on the other hand could be bad. like Hubber said, grind could equal partially stripped gear. Take it apart and look at your gears if it sounds like grinding or slipping and catching. Also always check to make sure your servo horns are tight. They will ocasionally work loose , especially plastic.

Thanks for your help guys, Ive had a look at it and I think the servo is worn out. I better replace it because id rather spend $70 on a servo then $900 for a new helicopter kit.

Thanks Again

ALWAYS... when a servo starts making a noise that is not normal for the servo... its a problem.

Digitals have a specific noise thy make. if you have any digitals, you most likely have 2 or more. if they sound the same they are probably OK. if one of the same make and model sounds different... you have a problem.

This works EVERY time.
