I think you've got two extremes here... helis will be about the most expensive and most difficult RC vehicle to get into, and RC cars will be about the cheapest and easiest to get into. I spent more on my simulator to learn to fly a heli than I did on my first RC car.

To get into a good nitro heli, you're going to shell out $1000+ easy. You're also going to have to join the AMA and a local RC flying club to have a safe place to fly it, and to get some help from more experienced guys, if there are any in your area.

If you're totally new to RC, I'd highly recommend an RC electric car first, they are the easiest and cheapest to get into. After that, you'll probably get addicted to RC, like I did, and move on to other RC vehicles that require more $$$ and have steeper learning curves.

well i wasnt thinking about the raptor 30 or anything like that. I ment more of something like these.... http://www.helihobby.com/html/evolution_helicopter.html The one on the very top or very bottem. And yes ive been addicted to the electric cars. I have about 6 of them lol. Their broken now and have been sitting in my garage for a long time. Thats why im wonderin ifi should get a heli or a nitro car.

First off; I'd say that most people on this forum will say to get the heli. ... myself included.

Second; in my opinion, the Hirobo Evo's are a better heli than the Raptor's, but you'll hear (very shortly) that other people disagree. The Raptor is a little bit cheaper and the parts are more readily available, which is why many people will suggest them. Since you are just learning, both will serve you very well. Both can also be setup to fly much more aggressive in the future as your skills progress.

One thing that most people agree on, is that you should check around to see what the local pilots are flying and what your LHS carries in the way of spare parts. It would be best if you get a heli that is popular in your area so that you can get help when you need it. Having an experienced pilot help with setup and training makes things much easier in the beginning.

Before you spend the money on a helicopter, however, I'd recommend picking up a simulator and spend some time practicing and doing lots of research. This is also something that everyone agrees on.

Good luck,
Keith
