Default What Radio to go with gy401 & S9253 servo

Ok so I have completed building my Sport Hawk and need to put in the electronics. I have been looking at the Futaba 7CHP and the JR6102 both are about $300.00. I also have been looking at the GY401 Gyro\S9253 combo.

My question is are the Hitec and Airtronics radios sets any good? Do I have to spend $500.00 to get a good combination of TX\RX\GY\SRV?

I notice that the price on the Hitec and Airtronics is cheaper that the JR or Futaba radios.

And if I do go with Hitec or Airtronics, which one is the better one for my money? I do like the feature of being able to hold multiple settings for many different helis or planes so this is a must.

Wife is willing to spend the $300.00 for the radio, but I would like for some of that to go towards the gyro and digital servo.

Any suggestions?

I run an Airtronics RD 8000, It's a great radio, easy set up, 5 point curves the works. Can manage 10 models with it. And Futaba servos/ gyros work just fine with it. Save yourself some cash to buy a crash kit.

If your buying it new, you want the 401 with the 9254 servo. The 9253 is the old servo for that gyro.

You want to buy a radio and a gyro with a digital servo for $300? (good luck). You mite find something used for that price? (maybe) The 401/9254 up here in Canada is $299 pluse tax. I know stuff is a little cheaper in the USA, but I didn't think it was that much cheaper?

Sorry Charlie,

But I think you misunderstood what I said or what I meant to say.

I want to keep my total cost below $500.00 for everything, not get it all for $300.00.

Thanks for the advice for the servo.

Sorry about that, I guess I misunderstood what you were saying. Would be nice if a man could get it all for $300 bucks .

Good choice, I use the 9CP with the Futaba gyros and servos too. And with a Campac module, you can give the radio 32 separate model memories!!

You will love the 9C!

Where you at in Philly? I grew up in Fort Washington, looking forward to catching an Eagles game here in Jacksonville in Feb.

Depending on which receiver(Rx) you use with the JR6102 it will or will not work with the digital S9254 servo. I bought a JR8103 radio that came with an R700 Rx and 811 servos, it would not work with the digital servos due to the feed back the servos send. The radio was advertised as coming with DS811 digital servos and that’s what I bought. Horizon ended up replacing the R700 Rx with a 649 PCM Rx so I could run the 811 and 9254 servos. The FM R700 Rx caused the servos to jitter really bad. I am not sure off hand if the PCM R770 Rx will work with digital servos or not. I am inclined to think it won’t since they sent me a 9 channel PCM 649 to replace my 7 channel 700 FM Rx.
