Default Brushless Motors?

Is there a big advantage to brushless motors? I am buying a Dragonfly 22D, and I'd like to upgrade for best operation. I see that the brushless motor is an option, is it worth the expense? Also, does anyone have any good links or contact numbers for purchasing Walkera Upgrade parts?

Default RE: Brushless Motors?

Well with helis I have no direct experience brushless experience, but no doubt the results are the same as with planes. On my 3D foam planes the difference between brushed and brushless motors is amazing. With a physically smaller brushless motor than my brushed motor I went from not able to hover due to a lack of power and 5-6 minutes to hovering at just over ½ throttle and 20+ minutes flights. This was after changing only the motor and ESC. The battery used was the same.

I have considered getting a T-Rex and would not think of flying it without a brushless motor myself.

I'd say get the brushless you'll love it.

I have just got my Walkera brushless set from Ebay. I'm just waiting for my 22d to come. I have the No4 model also & I can hover for almost all the battery.

Make sure you get some Like90 blades with a head stiffener and a better battery. If this is your first heli, just get the battery for now. Remember, if you crash it, you'll strip the main gear.

Thanks for your advice! Can you tell me what name, model#, or part number you used when searching for the brushless motor? I can't seem to find it's ID anywhere, and obviously I want to be sure I get the right one.

Thanks again,
Fred

Depending on the model, the brushless motor uses a speed controller of 30-40amps. The 22D uses the 40amp controller. I don't know what the actual current rating of the motor itself is, but it must be close to that.

I got one of these from the same buyer. It came well packed and with very basic instructions;

The blades came from;

Hi,
so whitch Lipos should i use? My Helicopter is an X-400

30-40 A seem to be a little bit high for Lipo Cells

1500mAh at 10C have aprox. 15A usable power.

30 A would surely kill these Cells

Thank YOu

You will see a huge difference between brushed and brushless motor. However, the brushless motor is expencsive and so it is with speed controller. I am flying the T-rex with Align 400L motor and Phoenix-25 ESC. I found them working well with each other. With all programmable functions of the Phoenix-25, I can fly my T-rex 450X around 15min with 2200mA (8C peak). If you need a Phoenix-25, please go to

Whenever you switch to brushless, you don't want to use brushed motor any more.
