Default how does it all work?

Ok, I'm trying to figure out how all of this works so I can have a better understanding.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...
[*] The receiver gets signals from the Tx on seperate channels and forwards the info down the corresponding channels[*] The ESC gets info from it's channel, and controls the speed of the motors[*] A brushless system requires a different ESC (why exactly is this?)[*] I know how a gyro works in other things, but not in a RC heli. I understand why you would want one, but not how it interacts with the electronics in an rc heli. Does it plug into the Rx? What difference does the "heading hold" feature provide? Why would I want to be able to turn this feature off?

I know I'll have more questions as these are answered. Any FAQ on the subject would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hello deli conker,

1 and 2 I’ll leave alone I think you got it for the most part.

On 3 I think that Brushed is DC and Brushless is AC.

4. Gyro gives you a stable tail and it does plug into the receiver.

Yaw Rate verses HH.
In yaw rate when the tail moves without input from you the Gyro will stop the tail from moving and leave it where it stopped it at. In HH it works the same except it will actually bring it back to its original position.

This is a very high level and non technical description.

Thank you for the reply. The ESC thing makes a whole lot more sense now.

So, about this gyro, I've heard that with the HH ones, you can turn off and on. This is usually next to something about mixing on the Tx. What is this all about? Some sort of compensation for yaw taking place at the Tx is my best guess. I've also read about copters that employ more than one gyro. What gives? It would sound like they are using one for each plane (x,y,z - not airplane).
