Default Mode 1 or 2

I am in the process of building a TT Raptor and am wondering which mode of radio is best for heli flying. Most of the guys around here fly mode 2 (throttle on the left) but I have flown fixed wing using Mode 1 (throttle on the right) in the past. I would point out that it's quite a while since I've flown so it shouldn't be too hard to change - I want to use the best way for heli flying. Please give me your advise![8D]

I would say whatever way you are most comfortable. This reminds me of when I decided to try flying with my thumbs and fingers instead of just my thumbs, at first it was weird but now I can't go back to just thumbs even if I tried.

Thanks for your reply. It just seems that the majority of people (other than the ones at my club!) seem to fly mode 2 and I thought there may be a good reason for it.

reason is probably most are right handed, and being so it's easier to control the main movements of the heli. the throttle you don't mess with as much and the same with the tail. another thing is you'll never be able to fly anyone elses heli if they use a different mode. not like they'd let you get behind the controler anyways!

That depends on what kind of flying your into. If your going to get into 3D flying your going to use one control just as much as another. If all your going to do is forward flight then you won't use your throttle/collective as mush. You want to learn to fly in the mode that is most common in your area that way when you need help with your heli you won't have a problem finding someone to help you (they can fly your heli to make sure everything is ok). In the USA/Canada most people use mode 2, personally I don't know anyone that flies in mode 1.

Thanks everyone for their input. The strange thing is that I've always flown airplanes mode 1 no problem, but as soon as I tried to hover my heli (for the first time) I seemed to be trying to fly mode 2! Think I'm going to spend a bit of time trying mode 2 on the simulator to see if I can get used to it. If it goes well then that's the way that I'll go!
