Hi,
I was wondering what kind of gyroscope is used in popular heli gyros?
Did You open it?
What kind of gyro was inside.
Thanks, Mark

RE: Gyro's insides?
Yeah, most gyros now are piezo... IE no real 'gyro' inside... just electronics. There are some ring gyros still though, i think... those would be like real gyros.
Not sure what you want/mean though...

RE: Gyro's insides?
Mechanical Eletric Gyros have been largely discontinued in RC models.
A Piezo Gyro senses rotation about a single axis and outputs a servo signal intended to be used to counter that rotation.
Piezo gyros are typically used in R/C aircraft to stabilize flight by automaticaly countering unwanted motion, e.g. from wind.
They can also be used in robotics for balancing, or to detect rotation, or to drive a "tracking" servo which continues to point
to a fixed object even if your robot turns.
A heading hold piezo gyro is the newest will hold a 60 size helicopter in a 20 to 30 mph cross wind dead still. Basically, these gyros separate the gain from the rate of pirouette. In other words the heading hold gyro will allow you to run maximum gain (holding the tail extremely well) and dial in your own desired pirouette rate.
This report on Heli Piezo Gyros should be a good read.

RE: Gyro's insides?
Well I opened up my Gyro and found...
chargrilled lamb, thinly sliced
red onions, finely chopped
fresh baby spinach, washed and well drained
diced tomatoes
and a strange white coating that looked like heat sink compound, but tasted better.
