Stick with the Venture from JR or the Raptor series from Thunder Tiger. See what parts supply your LHS stocks also so you can have access to parts quickly. That is really important so you don't have to do all you shopping through mail order.
Find some experienced help in your area and find out what they prefer. These are the folks you will go to when it comes time to do your initial set up. Alot of experienced heli pilots don't feel comfortable helping beginners on machines and radios they do not have some personal experience with. Stay away from the Nexus.

Century Sport Hawk and Kyosho Caliber 30 also good beginner helis. Parts availability and local experience are still the deciding factors.

You'll see several threads here on the Caliber. I can recommend it.
Also take a look at Runryder forum at http://runryder.com/

Hi!

I don't know much about the caliber 30, but I've had a nexus & concept 46 vr and that was enough to keep me away from kyosho

...their tech support leaves much to be desired and replacement parts are very expensive (not to mention Zeal upgrades).

On the other hand, I've heard wonders about the raptor 30 !!! BTW, if you can afford it, you might want to consider a raptor 50 w/OS 50 ..

I learned with a Kyosho Nexus 30. I still have it and it is the only heli I have. If i would have known I would have went with another company. The parts are not hard to come buy but Kyosho is very proud of their products and the prices show it.

Also I would have went with a more adaptable heli to advance with my learning. Don't get my wrong the Nexus is not bad or anything but I just cant really do to much with it now. I could upgrade but I think I would have been better off spending a few extra bucks for a more expandable machine.

The raptor 30 is great, and the parts are about the best price I have seen. Can't go wrong with it. Have trained a few on it.

I was told that it is best to start with a .60 since because of the size it is more stable.
