When did you remove your training gear?
Just wondering at what point you removed your training gear? I'm getting into forward flight & have started to think about this.

RE: When did you remove your training gear?
I'd want to have a few weeks of forward flight before removing the training gear. Also try some basic curcuits like tail in circle around you, figure eight in front of you (both directions) and backward circle around you. The training gear doesn't hurt the flight character that much unless you are doing fast forward flight and 3D.
You will want to put it back for nose in hover though, so keep it handy.

I took my gear off after the 9th tank through the heli. The first 3 tanks were just break in on the ground... So that makes 6 flights. The heli became so 'free' after they were gone, everything crisp and smooth, and none of that awful rotation inertia... or moment of inertia.

no expert here but i say take them off as soon as you can land with control.....if you are in ff they will not save you from a crash so why have them on?

I agree. As soon as you can keep a stable hover and land with no problem, take them off. It makes a lot a difference and you'll find it's esier to control with the gear off.

RE: When did you remove your training gear?
In my opinion, I say to take them off after you can hover tail in, and to each side. If you ask me, you don't even need to learn nose in hovering before you learn forward flight.
For myself, I learned forward flight, loops, rolls, stall turns, flips, and inverted hovering before I learned nose in hovering. Although, I did KNOW the control inputs for nose in hovering, I just didn't really practice it.
So eather way, get rid of the training gear ASAP. imo.

RE: When did you remove your training gear?
I'm keeping them on until I can hover in all orientations for a pack. I kind of alternate a "fun" pack with a "training" pack. During my fun pack I can do whatever I want, forward flight, land on objects, whatever. During my training pack I force myself to hover at each increment (tail in, left in, nose in, right in) for about 20 seconds. I make it most of the time, but every now and then I have to cut power and bounce a little on the training gear. I think after I make it through 3 packs with no bouncing, I will take off the gear. I have taken it off for some of my fun packs.

i took them off when i could maintain a hover. Just fly high and your never gonna crash unless theres mechanical failure
