AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Hello All,
I live in UAE. Its a sandy country! I fly in a parking lot behind a mall and there is sand dunes not far from us and dust often blows. Even the parking lot has plenty of it to be lifted when the heli is about to take off. What I was wondering is that do they make any air filters for these birds? If yes, I would love to save my O.S Engine from grinding itself down to nothing! I use a fuel filter, but do not hsee the point of it when the carbeurator can suck all the sand it wants!
Thanks!

lol Barracuda, thats kind of what I did. I used pieces of foam (that does not easily disintigrade with heat) and tied it with rubber band! At least makes me feel the air is clean!

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Hey,
Just to let anyone else know, who is also looking for a air filter, I just found yesterday a filter made my Kyosho. It is small enough to easily fit the engine room in the Caliber 30. Its just a simple rubber piece with a round foam piece in it to keep the dirt out.
When I opened the engine yesterday to install it, I was shocked to see how much dust ws accumulated near the carbeurator. It looked like the greese they use when grinding engines in a machine shop. Wonder what it would do when in the engine!?[]
The part was only Dirhams 20, which is about $5.
Thanks,
Faisal.

Falconeer
Thanks for the info.
I have a simular problem where I fly.
I managed to cut a filter that is simular to the one you describe, because it was too big.
I will look for the one you mentioned next time im in Dubai.
Which shop did you buy it from. Was it hobbycentre-uae.com.
Does it fit in the caliber 30 without squashing the filter part.
Does it stay on in flight.
The filter you have which one does it look like
cheers Cal83

Tower Hobbies carries Bru Line air-clearners, cat. No. 202.
In the Tower's catalogue, it's BRUG3102 on the large catalogue it's on page 238.

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Caliber83,
Great, someone found my info useful... Anyways, buddy, the third filter in the pictures is the one I used. It fits easily, and does not get squished in the engine room... However, I am going to fly it for the first time in a few minutes tonight as I had a tail problem. Just stopped to check the mail and all, and saw that you had a question... Will update you if anything funny happens with the filter.
Yes, I bought it from hobby-centre. They are located in Deira, on Airport Road.
Laters...

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Thanks Falconeer,
I will be interested to see how it goes with your heli.
I used a combination of the first and second filters, the first is just has a metal screen which may not stop dust, only larger particles, but i couldnt secure it on, it just fell off using the supplied cable tie.
I then cut one simular to the second filter and fitted it over the first, it fits snugly so neither fall off. Not sure if its too restrictive though. Im trying to set the heli up again after a mishap, so not sure if its lacking power or just my settings.
Can you buy replacement filters for yours, or will you just have to find some sort of filter element and cut to fit when the other needs replacing.
Hope it works ok. Will buy one next time in Dubai.
PS, I was at the rc flying site in Dubai a few weeks ago. A jet crashed into the stables catching it on fire. Apparently the camel racing has been allocated any frequecny they wish for their RC jockeys, causing airplnes to crash if theyre on the same freq.
Have they found a new flying location yet.

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
[X(] Thats some news... I will have to check on that Nad Al Sheba frequency issue. We are going there this Friday morning to fly! Will have to watch out for bad frequencies.
We also fly behind Sahara Centre in Sharjah. Actually. its the border of Dubai and Sharjah, there is a huge parking lot there, and it falls in Dubai territory. nice quiet place to fly in the mornings. The cops do stop by to see whats going on, but do not bother us.
About the filters, can you post a picture of your setup? I am using the third filter as is, and the good thing is that it fit perfcectly. As for tor the replacement, the filter is nothing but a rubber holder with a piece of foam in it and being so cheap, I guess its only available as the complete assembly.
Waiting for your picture! Thanks,
Faisal.

Hi Caliber,
Just wanted to let you know that the filter does not come off with the engine vibration.. it rocks dude. It does the job, is inexpensive and small enough to fit there without ANY modifications whatsoever!

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Thanks Gorgok,
I found the oil at our loval Hobby store here. Thanks for your help. Its red color oil and I applied plenty of it to the foam in the filter.
Thanks again,
Falconeer.

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Falconeer,
Glad to hear the filter works. Will get one next time in Dubai.
Here are the filters im using, the grey one is larger than the one in the photo. The only reason im using the grey filter is the orange filter has to larger hole. I have also cut the orange filter to be able to fit in the engine bay of the Caliber 30.
It sounds like your filter is a far better option though.

RE: AIR FILTERS? Where to find them?
Caliber,
The gray filter looks like has only a metal grill to stop bigger particles of dust. But, you know we have fine dust also here. If its only metal, you should cut some foam, use filter oil on it and attach it to the top of this filter using zipties. That will do the job just right.
