My OS32 has been run in pretty well for two gallons of 15% nitro. Im used to breaking engines in rich in a plank then leaning it up but Im having trouble with my heli. Do I keep leaning it out till I stop getting oil all over the bottom of my skids? I mean the skids are litterally coated in oil after a flight. How lean should I be?

The best way to adjust a heli is by using a temp monitor to set it at about 220-230 degrees. They sell a hand held one for about 80.00 or you can get one that mounts on the heli for 30.00 I use it to set all of my engines to run just right. One way to tell if you are running lean is while in a hover for 2-5 minutes the heli starts to get very unstable or the engine just quits from overheating. If the heli is running to rich most of the time you hear alot of noise or it will not lift off. It is always better to run it a little rich, the best needle pisition on the OS 32 for me has been 1 turn open and then 3-5 clicks open from there.

Mines 1 turn open and then 5 or 6 clicks closed and it still pumps out a lot of smoke and oil. Will the heli type change the way you lean out your engine? Also I'm using powermaster fuel which is 15% nitro 20%synthetic. Cant get coolpower in this area without driving for about an hour and half ;(

It should not matter on the heli type to adjust the engine. The altitude and humidity will effect it some. Out of 3 OS 32's that I have owned they have all leaned out if opened less then one full turn. Have you checked to see if your low speed setting is too rich? When you are hovering does the heli start to loose power after a 2-5 minutes? Or does it hesitate when you advance the throttle to climb? It is always a good sign if alot of smoke is coming out since it lets you know the engine is getting cooled well, but 15% fuel usually does not have alot of smoke and runs not as rich as 30%. One way to minimize oil buildup is to use an exhaust deflector and try not to hover too close to the ground since the blade wash will dump oil all over the heli.
