Default First Flights

Although a bit breezy today, I decided to brave the wind and give hovering a go for the first time. I did pretty well for the most part; after about 3 tanks of gas i was adjusting great for all the changes in the wind etc. Luckily there was a veteran heli pilot out there to grab the controls from me when i lost the thing in the sun at one point. I won't make that mistake again Here's a few pics of a newbie hover.

BTW does the training gear make the heli itself more stable in flight? The other heli pilot said that my nexus actually seemed more stable than his hawk 3. I don't think he'd used the newbie gear before.

I flew my Caliber for the first time this weekend. I flew 4 tanks and was able to hover OK. I had a really hard time if the heli got too high, transitioning from a high hover to a low hover. I would go into not so controlled up/down oscilations and ended up hitting the tail rotor. No damage that I can tell other than a little scuff on one of the tail rotor blades. I flew it afterwards and it seemed fine.

I think I need to tweak the pitch curve as it seems like it's not too linear below half stick....and maybe a little EXP..

Like i said i was lucky to have someone out there to help me. One problem i was having was that i had the dual mode on my radio set on the wrong position making the heli wayyyy too responsive to little stick inputs. He even had problems flying it until we fixed that. Got out flying my second day today. I can go forward now!

Good luck man, i think we'll both need a little.

Thank you

Third day, I'm doing left circles around the field. They don't look too pretty, but they aren't bad. Liftoff, forward, left all the way around, stop above my head, hover down and land. Did those through 1 1/2 tanks until i got too cold and called it quits.

Soon I think I'll be brave enough to leave those silly newbie gear off.

Soon
