I am finishing up putting my first heli together. I am trying to get the dynamic balance. With the CG marked the difference between the blades is about 6mm, with tape applied it barely changes the CG. Is 6mm far from normal ? Are the blades defective? Should I tape a penny to the blade? (just kidding). What can I do?

Mine were about 4 or 5mm apart at first. I had to add 3 rings of electrical tape to one. I suppose you could put tape on both??? One towards the root, other towards the tip??

Good Investment:
Knoll blade balancer or possibly Robart high point balancer with a blade adapter........Check PM Rick
Roughly 1 mm apart or less and 0.5gm weight difference is in rough specs.. I used to use a gram scale for chk. weight.
----------------------------CG (6off)-------------------------------- #1
-------------------------------CG-------------------------------------#2
Do this by applying automotive trim tape or decal at the EDGE of blade 1 to push the CG more to the outer
-------------------------CG-------------------------------#1 Tape to correct
Automotive tape is ok..
#1 is off 6mm
I take it these are woodies.........
You need to add weight to correct the issue-Most use decals or tape to correct...6 is a bit off............... You can add tape but do not get excessive with the auto trim tape ..
Or possibly better yet look at glass & CF blades pre-balanced, most are factory balanced from the get go just check and bolt on...
With Balancer:
Locate the CG of the blade than place a mark on it, then install the blades on balancer and apply your tape on your markfor the CG of the lightest blade.
NEVER drill a blade ever nor modify, you will weaken them!
