Default What is Idle Up? (Using FSOne SIM)

Hello again:
I started to play around with my FSOne Sim today in preparation for my first Heli purchase. I am a complete begginer to RC flight but I have an electro-mechanical background. Anyways, the Flightsim I purchased is a little light on documentation and has no training for Heli's. Therefore, I have a few fundemental questions:

1) The transmitter has a switch programmed for 'Idle Up'. I am trying to figure out what exactly that is. When selecting the CP micro heli, I think the difference is the throttle and collective pitch. In one mode the Thottle is on with what seems zero collective when the stick collective\throttle is centered. I think this is idle up. With Idle up mode of or what they call normal, the throttle/Collective is at the bottom and I have to raise it through the middle to get collective. It seems like I don't have negative collective in this mode.

2) When I tried a nitor heli, the idle up switch did something completelly different. I could not spin the rotor unless I has Idle up ON.

Any advice or reference appreciated. I did seach the forum and google for Idle up and failed to find an explaination.

It seems there is something fundementally different with a gas engin and the Idle up function.

Thank You

Idle-up is basically a switch that will keep the throttle at 100%, no matter where your stick position is on the collective. Normally when you raise the throttle on the controller, you are increasing throttle and increasing pitch angle at the same time. When you lower the throttle, you also lower your pitch.

When flying inverted you would enable idle-up so that when you are inverted, you would be able to have negative pitch (sitck lever is in the low position), but still have full throttle.

I'm not sure if I made any sense with this explanation......

All it is basically is a 3d switch. It allows you to control only pitch and add negative pitch and the reason you couldnt spin up with the nitro heli is that it has to be already fly or blades moving.

Thank you. The Idle up makes sence now. I'll look at the Nitro and see if I can figure out how that should be working.
