Hi,
Have tried several times to get my 30 size heli in a steady hover. ( I have training gear on ). Each time I get it an inch or two off the ground, it has a strong tendency to go backwards. Could it be that the training gear is throwing it out of balance? Could it be just set-up wrong? I have tried to trim it with the radio with the right stick trim. I have a JR10X it was set at 0 and I moved it to a setting of 55 which seams excessive, to no avail. Any suggestions out there for a cause? I have not joined a club yet, They meet in two weeks.
Is there something I can check till I can have sombody look at it?

Have a look at the swashplate... check that it is level with the heli and is able to move freely.. if this is ok check the paddles see whether they are parallel with each other and is in the neutral position.
