depends on how hot the motor runs. the heat sink is for the same purpose as you have one on your computer processor. most things run more efficiently and also reduces wear on the components when they are cool. the heat sink is supposed to move heat out to the fins which then gets cooled by passing air.

Same as Druss. It all depends on how hot the motor runs. If the motor works too hard like in those cheaper chinese type heli's like the walkera or honey bee it might be a good idea to put one on....They are fairly inexpensive and it may help especially on the tail rotor motor. Those under-sized motors can burn out quickly.

If you have one that fits, by all means use it.
As for motors, colder is better.
There is no reason not to use a heatsink.

I agree with Old Sloopy. Just be sure to use a little heatsink compound between the motor and heatsink while you're at it. Eflite sells a 5g. tube (P/N EFLM1913) for about $5.

the compound helps to transfer heat, you don't have perfect contact between the motor and the heat sink (little gaps and places where dirt can get in) so you need something to conduct the heat from the motor housing to the heat sink where they aren't touching (helps to keep dirt out too).

The compound ( a form of grease ) makes the heatsink work better.

any heatsink will work without it, just less effective thats all ...

Computer stores sell a silver based heat transfer compound, this is the very best you can buy ....(about $9 a tube)
