Default jr maxcomputer

Not sure if I am in the right place. Hope someone can help. I am new to the RC world and very interested. I was given a jr maxcomputer radio along with a Shuttle zx heli. I no it is old but was told works well. I do not have a manual for the radio and from looking on the net I am not able to locate one. Seem to be very hard to come by.

Does anyone know where I can get one. Already tried Horizon Hobby who sent me a Max 6 manual. The number on the radio says 6 channel new digital 512 ABC&W system net-w126HZ.

The back of the radio has a 72.670 mhz along with a gold label on the battery cover. I was told the gold label was important as to whether or not the radio was legal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave,
I will make the same recommendation that I make to anyone who receives an old used heli.
Put it up on a shelf and buy a new model.

My brother started out with used helis, possibly even the same model that you have. Parts are a bear to find. When you crash (and you will) there will be some pieces that may take an extended period of time to find (like the canopy). And try taking that older model to a club field and getting help.

On another note, do you realize that RC helis are among the more challenging form of the RC hobby? Have you considered purchasing a simulator? Realflight G3.5 is currently fairly affordable ($169) since there is a new version coming out. And you will spend way more than $169 in replacement parts if you try to learn without many hours on a sim.

Another benefit to getting a sim is that you do not need to decide what you are doing with the heli right away. More time for research while you are developing your thumb skills.

Thanks for the advice. I am sure I will be needing alot more as I get further into this. I have somewhat checked into a simulator but just like the heli did not know which one to get.

Is my old radio something that can work with a sim? If not, what kind of entry level system would you suggest?

Once againg thanks. I already have that info and have been in the process of learning. Did not know if someone out there had an actual manual that I could look at.

There are several sims that are really good. I have used Realflight G3.5 (and older versions) and Reflex XTR. I am sure that the other current ones are fairly close. Close enough that it will not much matter which you get.

Realflight comes with a dummy transmitter box so you will be good to go with that.

Hello Dave,

First off, ZX Shuttle parts are readily available from most all heli distributers so dont be afraid of it in the least. I've crashed and rebuilt once already, crashes are a great way of getting to know the intimate details of your Hirobo............trust me

Here is a link to my recent flight with cheering section after putting Funkey fiberglass blades and a Century muffler on my ZX Shuttle. The JR Max Computer came with the purchase and works fine!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXoJyiFBHvU

I was in the same boat as you about 9 months ago. Bought a ZX heli off ebay that came with a Max computer radio and I had no clue what I was getting myself into!!! My only reasoning was that I thought Shuttle heli's looked cool[8D]

But no matter what kind of heli you have, one thing is for certain.............you will learn things you never knew you would learn and do things you never dreamed you could do.

With that said.........

Pull the helicopter apart from the ground up and check EVERY part............

If it needs to be replaced replace it..........

If it looks like it might need to be replaced replace it...........

If it doesnt look like it needs to be replaced keep a very close eye on it!!!!!!!

If it spins..............balance it!!!!!!!

If it doesnt spin and its metal............loctite it!!!!!!

Check everything before every flight!!!!

The Max Computer radio WORKS EXCELLENT for hovering and forward flight. Its completely programable but you have to do everything through the small LCD window. You can program pitch curves, throttle curves, idle up, and throttle hold. The downside is the curves are only adjustable on 3 points (lo, mid, high) where the newer radios have 5 (or more) point curve adjustment. I will upgrade to my JR 8103 but honestly I have not needed anything more than this radio and it has kept the cost down. It even came with a PCM receiver to boot. Gold label frequency ready and I havent had a glitch. The only issue was the small base loaded antenna that took a dump so I just soldered in a new full length one and routed it down the tail.

So far I have learned to hover and do forward flight without a simulator. I do "play" on the sim in the hobby shop now and again but for the most part its been pretty straight forward just taking baby steps as I get comfortable.

I'm an old school R/C er from 1982 and am going out of my way to prove its possible to fly a heli without exclusive sim training............The Shuttle is a stable platform to learn on and very forgiving of my mistakes!

Good luck and happy hovering!!!!

I have the manual and it has a programming flow chart in it. I'll try to scan it!!!

Thanks for all the advice. I really appreciate it. The scans of the manual came through. Is there any way possible I could get a copy of the full manual? I dont know if it is to big to scan and send via email. If so I will send you a pre-stamped envelope if you could copy the entire thing. I don't want you to be out any money

Dave,

I was able to scan the manual, didnt bother with the warranty pages for obvious reasons. Also left out the aircraft radio sections since we are working with the heli radio.

Let me know where to email it and I'll try to sent it along. Not sure how many pages I can sent at a time, there are a total of about 23.

Dave,

The manual has been sent!

Its JR's early attempt at computer radios so prepare to be confused! The best way to learn it is by messing with the buttons, only then does it begin to make sense.
