what do servos do?

Well, A servo is a gear box that is used to move a control surface on a model aircraft, or to control throttle, and steering in a model car. basically a servo consists of a motor a gear box and an electronic controller that is used to control the position of the horn or the "throw of the servo.

An electromechanical device used to convert electrical signal (command) inputs to mechanical outputs.

What do servos do? They move something mechanically based on an electrical command given to them.

A signal is sent from the transmitter to the Receiver. The receiver decodes the signal into a "command" to the servo. The servo moves whatever is attached to it based on the command given by the receiver. A receiver is capable of controlling several servos. All this is powered by a local power source, usually a battery.
