Default RE: heli Size?

400/450 size helis are sized based on motor can sizes. Same with 250 class and 300 class (like the Blade CP series and similar). 200, 500, 550, 600, and 700 classes are based on single rotor blade length in milimeters (IE on a 600, 1 blade is 600mm, making the total rotor diameter 1200mm + rotor head). 400/450 class helis use 325mm blades, and the 250 class uses 200-205mm blades.

Glow sizes are based on engine size in cubic inches Most common are .30, .50, .60, and .90, the more widely seen new are the .50 and .90 size helis. .30s use 550mm blades, .50s use 600-620mm blades, and 90s use 690-710mm blades. This makes the .30 glow = a 550 electric, a .50 glow = a 600 electric, and a .90 glow = a 700 electric.

Align is one exception to this, they size their 500 and larger helis based on blade sizes alone, regardless of power source (IE T-Rex 600ESP and the T-Rex 600NSP are the same size heli with different power sources. The 600ESP is electric and the 600NSP is glow).

Hope this clears it up a bit.

Default RE: heli Size?

Just thought that I would add, that sometimes it depends on the manufacturer also. Most "450" sized helicopters use 325mm blades, however the Gaui Hurricane 425 uses 425mm blades. Gaui describes most all of it's helicopters based on the blade size.
For instance, Align's Trex 500 uses 425mm blades and Gaui's Hurricane 425 uses 425mm blades. Yes, it can be kinda confusing sometimes.
