Why does a rate gyro creep one way after initialized?
Hello all, After my gyro boots up, the servo centers, then slowly creeps to one side. turn it back with the transmitter, and release it, then it creeps back again. Is this normal? I would think that the rudder servo would stay motionless until it needs to react. FYI the vehicle is not moving. This is just sitting on the bench. This is just a cheap heading hold gyro, but I'm only using it in standard mode. As I turn the gain down, the servo will turn back towards neutral. I don't get it?[sm=50_50.gif]
Any thoughts?

Thanks dooleyje,
Should I take the servo horn off and wait for it to stop creeping, then mount the horn on to the servo at center?

[8D]Sorry jim, it is not normal. read the post again. He asked about a RATE gyro, not heading hold !
In rate mode the gyro will not creep, but in heading hold it will . If you want to center your servo arm, put your gyro in RATE mode, take your servo arm OFF, then turn on transmitter,, , and then receiver with all trim's centered, and then put the servo arm back in place. at 90/degree's. ( most newer gyro's are rate / heading hold ).
Jim is right though , in heading hold , this is normal.

Holy crap I now understand the whole gyro setup deal. If someone had mentioned this creep issue when explaining gyro setup it would have been a LOT LESS CONFUSING :P I had no idea why one would use Rate mode over Heading Hold or what possible difference it could make for centering.

Yes... It's a Rate/HH. But I believe if you don't plug in the remote adjust wire, it defaults to rate? So I can let it find its center then fit up the control horn...

Hi Matt, Once you get sick and tired of sub-trimming the creep out of the servo each time you plug in, treat yourself to a GY401 gyro.
... then you'll use your old gyro as a key chain.

It does have a manual gain pot adjustment on it, but if I turn the gain down far enough to take the "creep" away, I get no gyro reaction when I wag the tailend. Should I just let it finish creeping untill it stops and then mount the arm at 90 degrees? Wont I lose servo throw that way?
This is the gyro

It sux, but you'll need to subtrim it out EVERY time after powering it up.

Studies show that $14 gyros suck the fun and ease out of flying R/C helicopters.
I have a Telebee too, in a belt drive tail converted honey bee FP, but it doesn't seem to be any better, maybe I need a better transmitter. But, I'm trying one make this one work in a Drift car.
