Default mounting servos.....

Is it ok to mount the servos to the servo plate on a heli without using the rubber gromets and brass inserts? I noticed the heli I bought they are mounted directly to the plate, any problems with that?

Not recommended! Heli's are too hard on servos even with the rubber grommets.

That's a bad idea, without the rubber grommets none of the vibrations from the engine will get canceled out it'll shake the electronics to bits.

I thought you would say that! I went through all of the servos and put the rubbers on as well as the brass inserts, they're tight as a drum now!

Hope they're not too tight! =) The entire point of the rubber washer is to absorb vibration and if you have the screw torqued down to the point where there's no more elasticity left you might as well not have one on there at all. Find out how many turns it takes from the point the screw starts snugging up the washer to the point where you simply can't turn it anymore with normal wrist strength. You should adjust the tension so that you're only about 1/3'd of the way to that too tight spot. IE if it takes three turns to 'squish' the washer almost all the way make sure you only torque it down about 1 turn. That way there's plenty of give left in the rubber to do it's job

I know what your saying Lynx, I was careful to not tighten the screws until the rubber was smashed flat. I tightened mine until the ribber was just starting to compress on the front side, and the servos are plently tight. Also the servo tray I am using has deep receses, so the servos cant "twist".
