Default Got the shakes

Hi,

I'm looking for some inspiration with a problem my Shuttle has. Since my crash a while ago its had really bad shakes, and I just can't find what's causing it. Here's what has been replaced so far:
  • Tail boom
  • Mast
  • Flybar
  • Feathering Spindle
  • Tail rotor shaft
  • Landing gear

The crash involved coming down hard causing a boom strike, hence the new landing gear and tail boom.

After most of the repairs we took her out but bringing the head speed up a bad shake in the tail was evident - that's when we found the best tail rotor shaft - but now I've sorted that and the whole thing still shakes violently when the head is brought up to hover speed.

I hope you can give me some ideas for other areas to check - its been weeks since I've been able to fly because of this

Thanks for your thoughts,
Rob.

Did you ballance the blades good? I have seen spindles come from the factory bent too. Might check that.

i had a bad shake on my shuttle, check the centreing of the blade grips in relation to the head block, they should be exactly the same distance from the centre of the head to the end of the blade grips on both sides,if not you will get a vibration going up and down on the tail,i have seen lots of shuttles with this problem

The blades were well balanced before the crash and they haven't been replaced. They don't appear to be damaged. They're the stock woodies with a plastic covering. Do you think its possible they're causing the wobble if there's a crack in one I can't see?

@alvin:
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check the grips next chance I get.

If you crashed and they haven't been checked, that is the first place to look. Re-ballance them. Make sure they are not twisted too. If one is getting more of a twist or flex from a crack, it could come apart in the air. That would suck.

You have a gift for understatement!

I'll check them again. Hopefully I'll be going out to the field tomorrow evening and will get chance to see if I can get this problem sorted.

Thanks for your thoughts.
