Default RE: good electronics?

Ive had good luck with HiTec servos in my 450.  I use HS65MG for cyclic and 5084MG for rudder.  This combo works really well on 250's or 450 size helis.<div>
</div><div>Ive tried a few "budget" servos on my 500 and both times ended in a crash because of servo failure.  One crash because of an aileron servo going out mid flight...the other from the elevator servo loosing its center mid flight.  </div><div>
</div><div>For what it cost me on those 2 crashes...I could have bought top of the line servos to begin with.  I now run Align 510's on my cyclic and a 520 on the tail and I havent had any issues since.</div><div>
</div><div>For my 550 I am again using Align servos for the 600 class machine and will have pretty good piece of mind with them.</div><div>
</div><div>My largest heli is a Raptor 50 and it has all JR high end servos on it.  I dont recall the model numbers right off as this is the heli that I fly the least...but they are 600 class JR servos and they perform great and have never given me any indication of an issue.  I dont fly this heli that often because the cost of fuel is too high.  If I flew it more, Id probably burn a gallon of fuel through it every other week.</div><div>
</div><div>I used to promote cheap, budget priced servos...and still do to an extent.  Just not for a heli application.  The reason I feel this way is because you are very vulnerable to your heli (as well as any close bystanders/spectators) when you spool up to lift off as well as when you come in for a landing.  IF anything were to go wrong with a servo during either of these two events (liftoff and landing)...the heli could go out of control and come back into yourself or others.  The elevator servo failure I mentioned above was exactly like this.  I was coming into a hover to land...the elevator servo lost its center and just took off forward really fast.  All it would have taken was it to happen the opposite way and it would have came right back at me or into the pits.  Very scary!</div><div>
</div><div>I know you only asked for a servo recommendation, but I felt that I should at least tell you why I recommended what I did...so you could make up  your mind on your own as to whether you would trust your model or your well being to a set of 10 dollar servos...or would you spend a little (up to a lot) more on something that has better quality control given at the factory.  The choice obviously, is up to you.</div><div>

Default RE: good electronics?

You don't say what size helo you'll build but do yourself a favor and if you want a Trex type helo, build a Trex with the matching electronics. It will save you a lot of heartache trying to use instructions and set up designed for a Trex that may not work for the clone and using inferior electronics that may or may not be as good as the Trex bits. As noted above by ATV I've seen a lot of people (I too learned the hard way) try to save a penny and end up spending a dollar.
