Default Futaba Receiver Modes - Please Help

I've got a Bergen Observer, see link below. I'm working on controlling the gimbal on the front through the trainer plug on the back of my Futaba T6XA radio via my PC. I switched the transmit mode from PCM to PPM. I thought the receiver would be able to handle that change. I have a FPR138DP receiver on the heli. What do I need to do to get the receiver to accept PPM input. I'm just controlling the gimbal servo here, no heli control with this TX/RX.

you need a ppm (FM) reciever to control. If your reciever is PCM you need to be in PCM mode.

The Futaba R138DP receiver is a PCM receiver. It cannot decode PPM signals. To use that receiver, your transmitter must be set to PCM mode.

If you wish to transmit in PPM mode, you'll need the Futaba R127DF or R148DF receivers.

I'm curious how this will work in flight. I assume the PC doesn't go up with the heli. It looks pretty cool.

Thanks for the input, I now realize I'm going to have to purchase a different receiver. On the gimbal I'll have a gyro and a gps receiver that will give me the orientation of the gimbal so that I can send commands from a ground station(PC). I can pre-program a motion for the gimbal or tell it to stop and focus on an object for aerial photography. Below is a link to the solution that I am pursuing to achieve this. Once I get a PPM receiver, I should be ready to go.

One thing if you switch to PPM, be sure to get a double conversion receiver. I had lots of radio hits with my PPM receiver and I blame the single conversion.
