Having a bit of difculty today with my OS50. No matter what I do I can't get a good mid range and after about 10 seconds the engine dies. Both the top end and the low end are perfect and I've adjusted both but I am having no luck! This is the first bit of trouble I've had with my engine!
It's had aprox. 5 gallons of fuel. I think it's the glow plug but before I get another one I'd like to here some sudgestions... I did 2 10-15 foot autos today and almost boom struck on my first one.
It first started when I tried some powermaster 15% with 23% oil. I thought it was the fuel so I switched back and the problem stayed but it keeps getting worse and worse. A lot of the time it dies at 32% throttle, sometimes instantly, sometimes slowly. It idles GREAT! and the 3 second rule aplies. It's high end is also good as it climbs like it always does. One other thing, it does NOT do it when I have a glow igniter attached.
How long do glow plugs last in helis? I have an OS #8 in it right now. My temp also seems good by using the spit test.

For a few dollars, change that plug!! Sounds like that is definately you problem!
If you pull the plug, attach the glow driver, you will probably see that the first few coils are not lighting. This would be a reason for the difficulty to come up through the mid range.
Time for a new one!

If the problem goes away when you leave the glow igniter on that is a sure sign that the plug is going out.
It's hard to tell how long a plug will last. It depends on how many lean runs it's had as well as age. 5 gal seems like a pretty good life from one. Some of mine last much longer and some don't.
I'd change it and I'll bet your problem goes away.
