HiVoltage...

its an inflight power system...installs on the engines crank shaft and supplies power for the airborne batteries..4.8volt..pretty cool setup..like an alternator in a car..

That IS Cool. Does it replace the batteries or charge the batteries while in flight.? Keep us posted and let us know how it works out.

You can fly all day. Now you just need to get a fuel generator and you got it made. I would be interested in one of those. Good Luck with it.

Tower has it
www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXFV20&P=7

It keeps you batt charged. It runs youre on bored radio off of it unless the engine quits then it transfers power to the batt.
it also can power accesorys like lights and stuff.

If it fit, I wouldn't stand near it.

If it has enough output to charge e-flight packs on the fly, I could see a use. But to charge receiver batteries in-flight on a glow? What's the point, really?

they said you could add extra coils to get more power...i think the only thing i would use it on would be a turbine heli

i think it will be cheaper to charge batteries off the wall socket, it will be cheaper that way. Because the energy conversion from chemical to electrical via combustion is pretty low (about 20 %) compared to large coal fired station (fuel to electricity 35%), also, by charging battery on board, the engine will use more fuel to do the extra work, which require more refuelling.

food for thought

Along the same thought, the 20% is roughly accurate so take all the force being applied by your servos, multiply it by 5 and that's the amount of energy not going to your rotor disk.

At 2.0 amps (just a guess on probably the high side) at six volts that's 12 Watts times 5 for the conversion efficiency and you're up to 60 Watts. Your heli engine is (OS 32) 1.2 HP which is almost 900 Watts at peak output, so you're losing about 6 to 7% of your top end output. The larger the engine, the lower the percentage loss. An OS 70SZH is almost 1900 Watts so you're down to 3%. I suppose it's supposed to be a safety thing. Your battery stays charged or if the battery dies, you still have power... as long as that propellery type thing stays spinning.
