Default Schweizer on Floats .. Vigor in the Drink

Went to a float fly over the weekend. I had never tried my Schweizer 300 on floats. We got it balanced and it did very well. Looked neat and everthing. Wish I had made a picture. It's a converted Ergo 60.

My buddy was chasing a speed boat (RC) around the lake with his Vigor and in a tight right turn he dumbthumbed it and gave it more right. Mains hit first and then the rest of it. It hung underwater by ONE FLOAT for about 5 minutes. The engine still runs but the radio doesn't do anything. Main shaft, TR Shaft, Tailboom, several links, and other unknown thingys all bent, banged, or busted. It was quite a splash!!!

Disconnect the batt ASAP.
Take all the electronics apart (receiver, gyro, switch, servos etc) and blow out with compressed air, then dry with hair dryer.
Re-lube with spray silicon grease. Don't forget the pots and the motor in the servos.
If they still work, they won't for long if you don't dry em out.
If you're very thorough, you should be able to save it all.
I used to race boats and cars.
Good luck!! Kirk

Hey Joss,

How do you like your S300 conversion for the 60? I am thinking about it myself.

DO you have any pics of it in flight, and how is the orientation? Did it add a lot of weight???

It's great! It's a bunch bigger too but I don't think it added all that much weight. I have some pics of it in flight. I'll email them to you or post them here.

Ergo 60, Here are a few pictures of it flying. There were other helis at the float fly but the Schweizer got the most comments and drew the biggest crowd of any of them. You can slide the Ergo 60 landing gear under the Schweizer if that gives you an idea of how much bigger it is now. Very easy to see and orient.

Default And another

I'm flying with a Webra 61 P5 on 15% Wildcat 2/4 stroke fuel. Plenty of power.

Default It lives!!

Hey Mikey!!
I just checked everything and it all works!! Even the gyro! When I got home, I took everything apart and blew it all out with the compressor.Used some wd-40 to re-lube all the guts and then blew it through....plugged everything up and yippee!! I totaled up all the parts and it isn't as bad as I expected, with the exception of a new set of main blades....ugh! I still plan to send the reciever to Horizon ....no need to chance it! I'll have it up and flying soon....well, as soon as I get back to work...
Come and fly with us soon!

COOL! That's good news! I think when mine gets dirty I'll just do it myself and give it a dry cleaning!! To much hassle using the drive thru heli wash!!

Glad it's ok! Did you find any pix of the Schweizer on floats?

Default Ergo 60 Schweizer 300 conversion

Hi I just noticed the pictures of your Ergo 60 converted to the Schweizer 300 on your thread its a good looking helicopter ...I was wondering how long did it take to to complete the whole conversion? what type of blades are you using? is your Ergo completely stock or does it have some upgrades on it? I am hoping that you can give me a few tips if you don't mind.... I have one that I am planning to convert soon .......thanks .....again thats a very good looking helicopter

Thanks blinny!

I'm using Moel Sport composit blades just because I thought they looked goot on the Schweizer. I also got the MS composit TR blades.

Pat did the conversion for me and I think it took about a week of work a little here and there. I've heard others say it's a 5 hour job.

The only upgrade on it is a frame stiffener. Other than that and the blades it's stock.

Pat , ergofli, is the man that can answer your questions about any difficult parts, but I don't think there were any.
