Hmmm, how about this?

Good metric allen drivers or a set of good set allen wrenches.
Screw drivers that fit the screws as well as possable.
PITCH GAUGE! - very important
Locktite- Also very important.
some metric nut drivers. Not sure aht I use most but around 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, and 10mm.
Ball link pliers - not needed but they sure do help.
ball link sizer - I've been flying since April and I just ordered one. not needed but helps.
Needle nose pliers - I love these!
Normal pliers -
old rags - always usefull
wire ties - for wires
Tylenol - When you have a porlbem you can't fix.
RCUniverse.com - VERY VERY helpful CANNOT do without!
15 pound sledge hammer - Last resort.

Of course you can always get carried away and get one of those $700 kits. But you really don't need a lot of that stuff.

Are you asking mostly about setup tools or both setup tools and field equipment like starters, batteries, ect?

Can't speak for Racer1100 but I'd like to know what 'other' start up/set up equipment is needed.

I have some stuff for my plane; can I use any of that?

Electric starter
Nicad glow starter

Thanks

With a heli, just buy a 55 gallon drum LoL.

Ball Link Plyers
Wire Ties
Pitch Gauge Or just use you buddies if ones available
Hex Starter Adapter -I personally use the Ergo one-Blots on starter-Great for Less $$
Small Good Quality Screw drivers -I use Snap On Small Phillips locks in better than anything I've used before
Field Box -With FB battery-Panel that shows output to glow plug & charges Glow Starters-
Starter r-Good Quality One
High Point Balancer
Blade Balancer
Locktite-Red-Blue Types
Dremel-Optional
Metric Allen Heads
Plug Tool
Needle Nose Plyers
I use Kalt Filter on my heli's & use a filter on your pump (in-line)
Screwdriver Assortment
Tap & Die Set

Field Equipment
Field Box
Tool Box
Gas Can-Thinner Cans Are Nice
Oiler Of Some Type
Igniter Battery-You Can Make One With Alkaline Cells-Soldering
Power Panel
Manual Or Electric Fuel Pump
6MM wand size for most heli's
Can of Skoal, OOps for nerves

Just buy what you need!! This is just what I use now-I used to borrow a few I have now.

CyberPilot
You can use a lot of things you have now for heli's too.
