Default Gotta Help ME!

Hi, im new to this place, but once i saw it i thought i could get an expert's oppinion.

So, im looking at a FIRST helicopter, but miniture sized would be preferable.
Also the price range must be under $100 (tight buget)

Also dont tell me its that EXPLODING (according to reveiws) Dragonfly mini helicopter lol.

(later putting this: prefered electric)

I usually tell people to get 30 size nitro helicopters to start out. I never saw anyone to buy a small e-heli stick with it. They are a bit harder to fly and fragile. Maybe you can get a second opinion here, this is just what I notice.

I started out on FP micros and now fly .30 size electrics. Lots of people have sucessfully started on FP micros. That said, yes, they are substantially harder to fly. It depends on your perseverence and level of sustainable frustration .

Under $100? The only helicopter in that range would be the Walkera #4. Nothing else I know of is currently that cheap. Even if you get the #4, it'll cost you over $100 once shipping is tacked on.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

That's a pretty tall order, to find something that is any good for under a $100 bucks. Helis are like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. You can probably find one for $100 dollars, but I'm pretty sure it would be nothing but a peace of junk. I would recommend saving up a few more bucks and getting yourself something that has been proven to be a pretty good heli, something like the Blade CP. I believe they sell for somewhere around $230 dollars and they come with everything you need to get in the air. Here's is a picture of one but the price is in Canadian dollars.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if your budget is 100 dollars, R/C heli's probably aren't for you.

Ok my opinion.
If all you have is 100 bucks you are in this situation:
A thats not enough money to get a quality machine
B you have ZERO room for error since you have ZERO dollars to buy parts the first(2nd,3rd etc)time you crash
C You will be broke and without a machine to fly in a very short time
I would advise you to take the hundred, get another hundred up and buy a sim-fly that for 3 months and by then you will :
A Know if this hobby is for you
B Have saved more money to buy a quality machine
C found someone to help you learn to fly
D waited till the weather is consistently nice enough to practice-Practice-PRACTICE every day.
Good Luck
Joe

Take a look in the classified ads on this site. You may find something to match your budget there.

Hints:

Use your real controller on a sim.
Practice alot.

What i did was use a heli that i believe closely matched mine, then started using all the controller functions to set it up like i really should. Use the radio to its max in the sim, as you should in real life. After simming like this the first time i flew i stayed in hover (not rock steady though) the entire tank... never having to emergency land or anything.

I sim with my JR 6102 on Aerofly Pro.

If you think FMS is hard, you're going to have a heart attack if you try to fly a FP micro like the honeybee!

FMS models heli flight way to easily. In FMS, you can just throttle up and the helicopter will for the most part maintain a steady hover. Not so with a real one! You'll be moving all 4 sticks at once to maintain a stable hover.

But it's fun...real fun..

Dude-I know you want to buy a chopper and start flying-but trust me-go to all your local hobby shops that have a sim hooked up for you to try out-try Reflex-G3-AFPD,then buy the one you like-you will be getting it for FREE!!!!!
you will crash every aircraft on the thing a hundred times befor you hold a hover-and it wont cost you a penny!
Besides, you live in Denver-the winters there are as bad as Chicago-I fly every day here-ON MY SIM.
Anybody who is just starting out in RC flying who doesnt buy a sim before they buy an aircraft is going to spend a lot more $$$ than they have to.
Good Luck

I second all opinions of getting a sim first. I got G3, a Blade CX, now I have a Blade CP. If you want a heli that will fly as easily as ones on FMS, buy a Blade CX for $180. Easiest thing in world to fly, especially if you fly a lot with a sim first. CP is a handful at first, but gets better.
