Do you want a 30 or a 50 or a 60 or a 90 class heli? The current crop of 30's do not do 3D like the big boys as there is no substitute for horse power. If you are looking into the 30 class you cannot go wrong with either the Caliber 30, or the Rappy V2. The Rappy will let you install a 50 later that will turn it into a very capable 3D'er. Your Nexus will do 3D just at a slower pace. Other 30's on the market will do but most are not as well supported with parts, upgrade and accessories. Just MHO

I understand that it will become more capable of 3D with a bigger class heli. But I don't have the funds to purchase the engine too. Gotta start saving for my first car I am considering the New raptor...heliproz.com has it?? For how much?

Since you are flying with the Futaba 6xhs, I'd go rappy v-2. They are about $269 at most mailorder places. The 6xhs won't do CCPM and there is too much slop/bind in the sliding tray on the caliber to use the mechanical CCPM. You will be very happy when you go from your Nexus to a rappy. Far superior feel and performance.

Thanks, but I might upgrade to a 9C by selling my 6XHS. Still I would consider the Rappy due to the low cost.

If you are going to get a 9C then I'd go to the caliber if parts are no tougher to get than for the rappy. I prefer the caliber but parts availability is still the deciding factor. I have seen the caliber advertised for $279 so initial purchase price shouldn't be an issue. I compared the rappy to the caliber when I bought and the caliber won out IMO. I haven't seen the V-2 yet to compare it to the Caliber.

I would also go with the caliber. I love mine, it flies nice and smooth.

All I can say is the quick 30 Pro is actually better than my RG or any 30 I have ever owned. I heard a few rumors so far none true. I flew it Sunday and it was as smooth as silk........The Lerner like Paul built is a lot of bang for the buck.

Hmm...I've been thinking guys...I completley forgot that I could sell everything I have now to upgrade! Stupid me! This leaves me with a larger budget...possibly affording a higher class helicopter (60) what are some of the best 3D Helicopters (60 size?) Sorry about that!!

Abram,
If money is tight due to other issue then you don't want a 60. They suck gas big time and cost 2-3 times what a 30/50 will cost as far as replacement parts go.

What you are trying to do is keep your costs down but have a good platform to learn 3D. Right?

If so, then look to use a higher powered 30 class motor like the TT.39, Hirobo .36R, or Irvine .39. Put this in the lightest chopper you can find that has parts readily available and cheap. To me the R30 V2, Caliber 30, Hawk SE, or maybe the Quick 30 would be good choices. I can't comment on Quick because they just are to few and far between. If you like having something few others have then go for the Quick. It looks like a nice machine.

On the otherhand, the other three will do the job. If it were me I would take the Raptor V2 or Hawk SE. The Caliber is a REALLY flimsy plastic heli. They are quiet and do fly great but they are really cheap quality. Again, that is my opinion having flown one and helped others with them. You will find plenty about the Raptor by reading around. But, don't rule out the Hawk SE. It is a great 30 for the heli pilot that is wanting to go past basic aerobatics but do it with a machine with some 60 size features. You won't screw around trying to fix wah wahs and crap that have plagued the Raptor series. It's pretty much a build it and fly it machine. Just add fuel and charge batteries. I get the impression that the Quick might be the same.

Default Option

Then you would be well adviced to take a serious look at the Century Falcon SEV2 or its CCPM sibling the Raven 50. For only $400.00 or less you get a true 50 size heli that comes with these expensive features that have to be added later to most others:
1 - 600mm fiberglass - C/F composite blades
2 - a rotor head with a machined metal hub
3 - easily tunable rotor head that has proven itself to be flutter free
4 - a full metal swashplate
5 - an oilite sleeved washout hub,
6 - a full 23 degree pitch range
7 - a carbon fiber torque tube tail rotor drive system
8 - a tail rotor that employs 2 x radial bearings and a thrust bearing in each blade grip
9 - an integral clutch system that does not require any critical alignment
10 - a clutch system design that does not require any shafts to turn inside bearings when in operation.
11 - a start system that disengages the shaft from turning after the engine starts.

Their light weight and low disc loading give it performance like an 80 size 60 ship. Their high quality features insure that they will stay smooth and precise for a long long time just like any Hi-Zoot 60. Yet their crash cost and cost of operation is more like that of a 30.

Syclic,
I have the Falcon SE V2 and was gonna recommend that. But, he did say he was wanting a 30 primarily.

You are right though. The Falcon would be the best choice IMHO. Alot of people are FINALLY catching on to the Falcon/Raven 50s. After you get the Raptor/Sceadu helis and then add at least $100 in upgrades just to get the slop out you end up on the short end financially. I should know, I have owned all three of these and the only 50 left in my fleet is the Falcon SE V2. After nearly 4 cases on my Falcon it is just as tight as the first gallon. I planted it once inverted and got it back in the air for $59 bucks + blades. Not bad at all...

Since 90% of the people reading these message boards shop online then even not having local parts support won't be a problem with Century. I placed an order with Rick's yesterday for some Falcon SE V2 parts and he shipped them out yesterday. If that won't work for ya heli-world.com is picking the shipping on all orders $49 bucks or more.

You might want to read up on one of the recent threads posted by Mike Mas before you go with any CCPM. I had a venture, which was a pain in the *****, and now I know why....

Go with the Hawk. You can get to everything in the frame real easy, without taking it completely apart. This is great for adding upgrades, or fixing something you broke. I bought a Kyosho 60 recently, and couldn't believe how difficult it was just to get to the clutch....
