Default Modify servo for 360 rotation.

Anyone on here know how to modify a servo to rotate 360 degrees? I am planning on building a camera mount and I want my servos to stay in one place when the sticks on the radio are centered and only move when commanded to without returning to center. I'll probably be working with JR 537 servos since I have an abundance of these laying around. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I plan on using a JR 6102 for the camera controller and and 8103 for the heli radio.

Also any links to get a 2.4GHz A/V transmitter/receiver combo. It doesn't need to be a camera, since I will be hooking my digital cam into it.

You might try posting in the aerial photo/video forum

I know you are asking for 360º but here is a mod for 180º

essentially you are just removing the tab on the gear that works the pot.

Its a little more than removing a tab. There is a rheostat inside, on the motor side of the servo, that has built in stops....unless you can find one of the same resistance without stops you may get it to work.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, I thought it would have been as easy as cutting the center post on the rheostat, but it looks more complex than that, I'll probably just shop around for some special made servos.

It's pretty easy actually

Disassemble the servo
Plug in the servo
Let if find center or adjust the rheostat until the motor stops turning
Wick some thin CA into the rheostat and hit it with kicker then dry
Cut the lug off the main gear of the servo
If the servo is JR or Futaba drill out the main gear center where it used to be keyed to the rheostat so it doesn't try to turn it
If Hitech just remove the little flat piece that sits beneath the main gear
Reassemble servo and you're done. Takes about 10 minutes or less. I've done it to a number of servos for aerial photography after talking to Jody Prather at Helicam Solutions.

Now that's what I figured a guy could do, but I didn't want to ruin a servo trying it until I heard it was possible. Thanks!
